vs free will, conscious vs unconscious, fixed vs unique, normal vs abnormal and
other physical variables

Higher Self /Goodself
Is defined as our positive personality. It is the better parts of us ,
encompassing all the good traits, characteristics and qualities of an
individual.
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Lower Self/Lesser Self
Is defined as our negative personality. It is our shadow or the darker
parts of us , encompassing all the bad or negative traits, characteristics
and qualities of an individual.
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Human being is imperfect
Our ego is made up of positive self and negative self
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Our superego represent the higher self, the id
represents the lower self and the ego represent
the real self.
Copyrighted kykology 2022
The interaction of the higher self and the
lower self shapes our personality
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Lower Self
Ego
Personality
The positive self is our goodself when the
attributes of the higher self exceeds the attributes
of the lesser/lower self.
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Lower Self
Ego
The negative self is our lesser self when the
attributes of the lower self exceeds the attributes
of the higher/goodself.
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Lower Self
Ego
Human personality is also shaped by the interaction of the
nature (biological) and nurture (environmental) variables
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Nature Self vs Nurture Self
Nature Behavior
Behavior is a function of our genes. Our genetic-make up determines
our behavior. Our personality abilities, talents, traits, characteristics
are our nature
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Nature or Biological Variables
Hereditary genes, hormones, neurotransmitters and humors
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Nurture Behavior
Behavior is also a function of the environment. Our environment,
upbringing and life experiences determine our behavior. We are being
nurture to behave in certain ways
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Nurture or Environmental Variables
Learning from the experience of environmental variables such
as Parenting, Upbringing, Family values, School experiences,
Societal norms, cultural background
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Personality traits shaped by biological variables are
deterministic or fixed. They are not changeable.
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Personality traits shaped by environmental variables are
learned. Human being have the free will to learn, unlearned and
relearn.
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Personality is influenced by the way one respond to the
stimuli of the environment
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Human response to the environment can be
reactive.
Human behavior controlled by emotion is reactive: If you are nice to
me I will be nice to you; if you are nasty to me, I will be nasty to you.
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Reactive Self vs Proactive Self
Human response to the environment can be proactive.
Human behavior controlled by thoughts is proactive: If you are nice to
me I will create a gap to analyze your intent, generating alternatives,
assessing the outcomes of each alternative before I make a choice to
respond.
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Reactive Self vs Proactive Self
Human behavior can be covert or overt
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Overt Self operates at the conscious awareness of the mind
and are explicit and observable.
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Covert Self operates at the unconscious level
of the mind and are hidden.
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Human personality can be normal self and abnormal self
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Normal personality is relatively healthy in their
psychological and mental disposition
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Abnormal personality is relatively unhealthy in their
psychological and mental disposition
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Real Self Vs Ideal Self
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Real Self
• Real Self is what you really are from inside and outside. Your true and
authentic traits and characteristics.
Copyrighted kykology 2022
Ideal Self
• Ideal self is what you want to be. The traits and characteristics you
wish you to have. Ideal self can become your false self when you
deliberately display the traits and characteristics that is not you.
Copyrighted kykology 2022
True Self vs False Self
Copyrighted kykology 2022
True self
True self is the actual you. You say what you really think and do what you
mean. You have a singular self. You are natural, authentic and original.
True to oneself
When I say "yes" I will do it.
I don't say one thing and do another.
I am genuine when I praise you.
I hate corruption and will fight it with all my might
Copyrighted kykology 2022
False self
False self is the fake or phony you. You say one thing and do another. You are a façade and
chameleon like who wear many masks. You put on different mask when you interact with
many others to suit your purpose or achieve your hidden agendas.
Examples:
• Pretending or deliberately being someone others like
• I say "yes" when I really mean “no“
• I am nice on the outside but on the inside I can't stand you
• I praise you as high as the sky but in myself I curse you
• On the outside I am fighting corruption but on the inside I am very corrupt
