Bullying
Group Focus
The group will be comprised of middleschool students.The groupwill focusonteachingstudentsthe
skillsneededtocope withbullying.The goal of the groupisto educate studentsonthe dangersof
bullyingandhelp strengthen theircopingskillssothattheyare able to identifywhenbullyingistaking
place and an interventionisneeded.
MissionStatement
The missionof the groupis to provide asafe environment where the studentswill learnhow toidentify
the effectsof bullyingsothattheycan take an active role inhelpingdecreasebullyingatthe middle
school level.Allinstructionandactivitieswill be gearedtowards middle schoolgrade level
understanding.Videosandactivitieshave beenobtainedfromthe followingresources:NationalBullying
PreventionCenter,StopBullying.gov,Kidshealth.org.,AmericanPsychological Association,The Bully
Project,ElementarySchool Counseling.org,The School Counselor Blog. Standardsmetthroughthis

5.2: Develop and implement programs that address the personal and social risk factors of students
5.3: Develop and implement programs that reduce the incidence of school site violence

developedwiththe assistance of the students. The differenttypesof bullyingwill be discussedasa
group.

Studentswill learn whatrelational bullyingis.Theywill learn thatitis importanttopreventthe spread
of personal informationpertainingtoanotherpersonbecause itquicklybecomesarumorandit isan
actionthat is consideredbullying.
Activity

videodemonstrateshowspreadingrumorscanleave someone out,evenbetweenfriends.Afterthe
video,studentswill experience firsthandhow somethingtoldandsharedcanchange by the time it
reachesothers,therefore itisbestnottoshare any informationatall.Iwill share a commentwitha
student,thenthe studentwillshare itwiththe nextstudentandwe will compare the endresulttothe
startingcomment. Studentswillcomplete activity: Lesson72“stoppinga rumor” pg. 239 and “Don’t
SpreadRumors”pg. 240. Studentswill have the opportunitytodiscussthe activity.

Studentswill draw the outlineof aperson.Theywill write downrumorsthatcan hurtsomeone.After
fillingupthe bodywithrumors,studentswill crumbleupthe paperandopenit up.Will discusshow
rumorshurt and damage someone’sself-image justlikethe crumbledpaper.

toothpaste backinthe tube.Discussionof bullyingbeinglike the toothpaste,thatonce yousaythe
meanwords,youcan’t take themback justlike youcan’t putthe toothpaste backinthe tube.

Week 6
Group Objective
Studentswill continue tolearnthe effectsof beingbulliedthroughthe painof anothervictim.
Activity
Students will take turns reading “Letter To A Bully” where they will be able to see the pain
through the victim’s side. After the letter, students will draw a body outline and will write down
all the positive things about themselves. This will reinforce a positive self-image and will help
students be secure in who they are.
Materials:letter,constructionpaper
Week 7
Group Objective
Students will learn the strategies needed to help put a stop to bullying at their school.
Activity
Students will watch a video : http://www.pacer.org/bullying/video/player.asp?video=56
After the video, group will discuss the video and will discuss the strategies. Students will make a
poster showing the strategies to help stop bullying.
Materials: video, poster, markers
Week 8
Group Objective
Students will learn about Cyberbullying and how it is considered bullying as well.
Activity
Students will watch a video: http://www.pacer.org/bullying/video/player.asp?v
After the video, the students will reflect on how the girls in the video were bullying another girl
online. Students will discuss scenario and will discuss “what did the girls in the video do that
was considered bullying?”
Materials: video, paper
Week 9
Group Objective
Students will learn when it is crossing the line when you post something on facebook,
Instagram, twitter, myspace.
Activity
Students will watch a video:

After the video, students will engage in “crossing the line activity”. Students will be given a card
that will have a facebook post on it. There will be a sign on the carpet for “appropriate post” vs.
“crossing the line post”. Students will be asked to decide whether the facebook post that they
received is an “appropriate post” or “crossing the line post”. There will be a discussion of which
posts were correctly identified.

Week 10
Group Objective
Students will learn about the 5 R’s of Bullying and will learn how to implement them.
Activity
Students will watch a video:

Video is about how students can make a difference in their school by implementing the
strategies learned. Students will then make a board with the 5 R’s of Bullying.
Materials: video, board paper, construction paper, markers, scissors
Week 11
Group Objective
Students will learn to work together in unity as they put together the “5 R’s of Bullying” board
to help put a stop to bullying in their school.

Video is about students getting together in unity to help put a stop to bullying in their school.

Week 12
