Surviving Middle School
Group Focus
The group will be comprised of 7th
/8th grade students.The groupwill focusonteachingstudentsthe
skillsneededtosucceedinthe Middle School level.The goal of the groupis to strengthentheirsocial
skillssothattheycan put theminpractice inthe classroomand outside of the classroom. The
curriculumisbasedon the fundamental skillstaughtinthe book “Mindfulnessforteen anger”byMark
C. Purcell,Med,PsyDandJasonR. Murphy, MA.
MissionStatement
The missionof the groupis to provide asafe environmentwhere the studentswill be able toreinforce
whattheyhave alreadylearnedandobtainnew knowledge of the social skillsthatare crucial to get
throughtheirMiddle School years.All instructionandactivitieswill be gearedtowards 7th
/8th grade
understanding.

All informationandrecordsobtainedinthe course of the groupshall be keptconfidential unlessthe
followingapply:

taskswere difficult.Relatedittohowsometimesclassworkisdifficult butstudentsstill needto
complete tasks.Studentsdrawapicture of the tasks theyare responsibleforinthe classroom.

ina car, Library.Each studentwill provide the rulesenforcedforeachenvironment.Studentswho
cooperate withprovidingthe ruleswillreceive asticker.Studentswill draw anenvironmentthat
requiresrules.Studentswhocompletedactivitywithoutbeingdisruptiveor fightingreceive aprize.
