2. A Cat Room?
• If you’ve been thinking about basement
remodeling lately, but can’t decide on what type
of room you want, don’t forget about your pets.
For example, if you have a cat or cats, have you
ever thought about designating an area of your
home specifically for them? That’s right; your
basement could be an excellent area to turn into
a room that your cats will enjoy. A basement is
actually an excellent area of your home to make
pet-friendly, as it is secluded from the rest of the
house.
3. How to Begin
• But, what exactly do you need to make your basement
cat-friendly? There are many items that you can put
into your basement that will keep your cats occupied
throughout the day, allowing them to expend their
energy and live a healthy, active, and fulfilled cat life.
One item that is an absolute must in your new cat
room is a scratching post, or perhaps several scratching
posts. These posts are wonderful for both cats and
owners, as they give cats an area to do what is in their
nature – scratch. Also, because your cats will become
trained to scratch their posts in the basement, it will
keep them off of the furniture.
4. Creating a Kitty Haven
• There are many different types of scratching posts available, and it
would probably be best to provide your cats with a few different
ones to ensure they get all of the scratching out of their system. For
example, you could put a couple smaller ones in the corners of the
room or by pieces of furniture, along with a large post or
two, perhaps with a sitting area, in the basement as well.
Additionally, there are scratch posts infused with catnip that can
make them even more desirable for scratching.
• Another tip for your cat room is to make sure you don’t over-clutter
it with stuff. Give your cats a lot of space to run around and expend
their energy. Drop a couple of toys on the ground, items that can be
batted around the room, so you cats can do what is in their nature:
hunt. This is especially important for younger cats, as they have
more energy than their elderly feline companions.
5. Nap Time
• Remember, your cats will need places to sleep
as well. Now, you may be thinking, a cat can
sleep anywhere! In fact, cats spend most of
the day sleeping. You would be right, but that
doesn’t mean you can’t go a little out of your
way to provide them with a comfortable place
that they can call their own. Make sure to put
a few cat beds around your new room.
Plus, don’t forget food and water bowls!
