This is the Campaign Pitch I created while I was volunteering at DoSomething from June 2020 to August 2020. This campaign specifically focuses on donating food to veterans who are homeless or are at the risk of being homeless. Thank you cards are attached with the food donation.

2. THE CAMPAIGN
Problem: A study in Women’s Health
Issues found that 27.6 percent of female
veterans were “food insufficient,” and food
insufficiency was associated with poor
health outcomes among female veterans.
Call to Action (CTA): Collect unopened
non-perishable food to be donated to the
homeless shelter for veterans and attach
the thank you card along with the food.
Attach three thank you card along with
the food donation.
3. ● Twenty-percent of households that are supported by
Feeding America have a veteran or someone that has
served in the military. In fact, 27 percent of veterans
of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have struggled to
provide food for their families.
● Another recent study in Public Health Nutrition
documented rates of food insecurity among veterans
of the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that were
almost twice as high as rates among the general
population.
● In addition, a study from the National Center on
Homelessness Among Veterans found that nearly 50
percent of a national sample of screened veterans
who were homeless, at-risk for homelessness, or
recently homeless experienced food insecurity.
Why is it important to feed homeless veterans who are experiencing food insecurity?
4. ● Substance abuse and mental illness
(alcohol, drug or mental health issues)
are among the most common reason
why veterans become homeless and as
a result experiencing food insecurity.
Foreclosure, poverty and
unemployment are also the reasons
why veterans experiencing
homelessness and the food insecurity.
● Lack of quality healthcare and the lack
of support from the Department of
Veteran Affair can also result many
veterans becoming homelessness and
food insecurity.
Why are so many veterans experiencing the homelessness and the food insecurity?

6. How I Thought Of This Campaign
When I thought of food insecurity, I thought of homeless
people since homeless people have food insecurity all the time.
Therefore this summer, I bought three bags of non-perished food
donating to the food bank in Eugene, Oregon. This time, I
specifically focus on homeless veterans because one time I started
to think about why there are homeless shelters specifically for
veterans.
Then I found out that are many homeless veterans in the
United States. I felt heartbreaking when knowing it because the
veterans work hard to fight for our country and almost all of the
veterans suffered Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Being a
veteran is hard because veterans have to risk their lives to fight the
war, they deserve to be respected and protected by all of us.
Therefore, I believe food and a thank you card to the homeless
veterans is a very great way to give encouragement and respect to
the homeless veterans.
