IT & AUTOMATION MANAGER - Vanchem Vanadium Products September 2010 to present
This is a challenging position where the firm was taken from all reporting done manually with Excel to a
proper management information system collecting data directly from the plant PLC/SCADA system to
automatically produce daily, monthly and yearly reporting. Costing, Stores and weighbridge information
residing on different SQL databases was made available to all relevant employees via easy usable
database interfaces. Plant delay system created that pulls right through to the Management information
system as well as analysis of delays.
IT servers was moved to a VM ware server system consisting of 3 separate servers for off plant disaster
recovery as well as reducing overall hardware and maintenance cost.
MANAGER PRIMARY OPERATIONS - Vanchem Vanadium Products December 2007 to September 2010
Responsible for production of the Extraction section as well as the Oxides section consisting of Poly
Vanadate, Fusion, Hivox, MVR’s, Boilers and a Barren Treatment plant.
MANAGER EXTRACTIONS - Vanchem Vanadium Products May 2006 to December 2007
Responsible for production and maintenance of the Extractions section consisting of a tippler, two mills,
Dewatering section, three Kilns, leaching operation, Slimes dam and Calsine dump.
INSTRUMENTATION SUPERINTENDENT – SAMANCOR CHROME October 2004 to April 2006
Responsible for all Instrumentation systems of Furnace 1,2,3,4,5,6 Pelletising, Chrome Recovery Plant,
IC3 and Ferroveld.
MAINTENANCE MANAGER DIRECT REDUCTION – Mittal Steel Nov 2001 to September 2004
Responsible for the Mechanical and Electrical maintenance of the plant consisting of four rotary kilns and
Ore handling/receiving for the whole of Mittal Steel. Help plant and employees in achieving results by
supplying them with the right tools to do things right the first time. Wrote several software programs to
assist them in day to day work: In Time Cost system, Admin system, Plant delay System. All for multiple
users on a works wide network. I also gave training on above mentioned software.
MANAGER ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING - Electrical Steel Making & Direct Reduction Nov 2000 to Nov 2001
Responsible for plant process control systems. (PLC’s, Electrical switch gear, Distributed Control Systems,
SCADA’s, Information Systems.
AREA MANAGER ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY – Direct Reduction 1993 to Nov 2000
Responsible for Plant PLC and Instrumentations. Did Project work from design, wrighting of software to the
implementation phase. Plant lights total upgrade, Emergency power system control with PLC, Successful
help implement a total integrated plant process control computer system on a live plant. Part of a project
team to optimise SAP usage in ISCOR.

Did three months basic training and complete a short officers course successfully. The remaining 9 months
was spend as officer in control of software containing all the data of the current national servicemen. In this
