4. When a year’s truce was called, Rivalin
went off to visit King Mark of Cornwall

8. Rivalin excelled, and all the ladies noticed

Blanchflor.

10. Rivalin and
Blanchflor met.

12. An enemy invaded Mark’s kingdom, and
Rivalin fought

13. Rivalin was wounded and near death

14. Blanchflor sneaks in to see him

15. She throws herself on him and covers him
with kisses

16. He revives, gets her pregnant, and they run
off to Parmenie

17. Rual convinces Rivalin to marry Blanchflor

18. Rivalin is killed by Duke Morgan, and
Blanchflor dies giving birth to a son.

19. Chapter 2: Rual takes charge of the
situation
His wife Florete
pretends to give
birth to a son.

20. The child is
treated as
their own.

21. He is baptized “Tristan”

Chapter 3: The Abduction

24. Hunting with birds was a sport of the
upper classes

26. Tristan, his family, and his tutor Curvenal
board a Norwegian ship where the sailors
have hunting birds to sell.

27. Tristan stays to play chess

kidnapped, but
after a week of
serious storms, he
is put ashore in
Cornwall.

29. He is helped by
pilgrims, who
take him to
Tintagel.

30. Chapter 4: Tristan joins a hunt

31. Tristan has amazing hunting skills

34. Tristan was especially skilled at the
fourchie

35. The fourchie is the preparation of a stag’s

46. He goes back to Parmenie, seeking revenge
on Duke Morgan

47. Tristan sneaks up on Morgan and kills him
during a hunt

48. Battles follow, and Tristan is surrounded

49. Fortunately, Rual sends troops to the
rescue
