1. Fauna and flora
Peninsula is one of a kind for its wide variety of wild flowers. The abundanceof species
of orchids can be found here. There are 60 species of orchids found in Ontario and 43 of them
found in Bruce Peninsula like Yellow Lady's Slipper, Showy Lady's Slipper and Maidenhair
Spleenwort.
Wildlife usually seen in Bruce Peninsula chipmunk, squirrel, raccoon, porcupine,
snowshoe hare, skunk, white-tailed deer, snakes and frogs but Black bear, fox, fisher, martin and
the Massasauga rattlesnake are not as usually seen here.
These two national parks are located in
southwestern Ontario, on the tip of the Bruce
Peninsula. Bruce Peninsula is 154 km2 and
Fathom Five is 113 km2 in size. Established in
1987, the parks represent Canada's Western St.
Lawrence Lowlands Natural Region and
Georgian Bay Marine Region, and are located in
theMixedwood Plains Ecozone. The town of
Tobermory, where the Parks' operations are
based, is approximately 300 km northwest of
Toronto.
