2. INTRODUCTION
It has large desert regions, with 40% of its territory covered by sand dunes, which
does not prevent it from hosting some of the most exuberant forests in the world, as
well as countless marine ecosystems and extraordinary species that have evolved
isolated in their exile.
3. WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Flora: The flora of Western Australia comprises more than 10,000 published native vascular plant species
and a other more than 1,000 unpublished species. They occur within 1,000 genera from 211 families;
there are also 1,276 naturalised alien or invasive plant species more commonly known as weeds.
Fauna: Home of iconic Australian animals, such as red kangaroos and crocodiles, It has 141 of Australia's
207 mammal species, with more than 400 reptile species, 1,6k fish species and more than 12k species of
wildflowers – making it one of the largest collections of wildflowers in the world.
4. NORTHEM TERRITORY
Flora: It has a distinctive flora of more than 4,3k species of native plants, including some 702
endemic species concentrated particularly on the Western Arnhem Land Plateau.
Fauna: Water pythons, turtles, frill-necked lizards and barramundi to kangaroos, wallabies, emus,
dingoes, flying foxes and thorny devils.
5. QUEENSLAND
Flora: Known native and naturalised species of plants, algae, fungi and lichens in the state, the
flora now has 14,482 known native species across all groups.
Fauna: kangaroos, koalas, emus, dingoes, platypus, bandicoots, echidnas... In Queensland's far
north, the biologically diverse Daintree Rainforest is home to the highest concentration of rare or
endangered wildlife in the world.
6. NEW SOUTH WALES
Flora: It has concise descriptions and illustrations of 6363 species, in 1616 genera and 255
families. ( Ex.- proteaceae, melaleuca, wildflowers...)
Fauna: Australian brush turkey, australian magpie, bandicoots, bottlenose dolphin, bowerbirds,
brush-tailed possum, echidnas, emu.
