• In educational practice, it is an ongoing process that
encompasses a wide range of methodological
techniques to estimate a person`s performance. (A
good teacher never ceases to assess students,
whether those are incidental or intended) Brown, 2010

•It is being knowledgeable about the principles,
practices and key concepts of testing and
decisions surrounding their usage; being able to
link it to learning and teaching process by
matching it to instructional objectives.
5. THE FUNCTIONS OF ASSESSMENT
• Evaluate the learners performance
• Provide thorough information about students` progress levels
• Help teachers to check to what extent course objectives have been
realized
• Carry out administrative function
• Qualify the learners language competence
• Measure the capacity and general ability of a learner to learn the
language
