purpose of this laboratory exercise is to understand the importance of evaluating different
sources of water for the purpose use as raw water for drinking supply Investigate: Using the
internet, the student selects a municipal water utility anywhere in the U.S. and report the
following: 1. There source water (reservoir/lake/river) 2. The total raw water capacity described
as the draw from a surface water or pumpage from ground water 3. Population served by the
utility 4. Average DAILY demand by the municipality 5. Obtain a copy of their latest Safe
Drinking Water Act (SDWA) report to customers, if available. Deliverable (Individual): 1. Write
up as part of your lab, the information about the water source and water system you found and
whether their compliance with the SDWA is acceptable. 2. The State of Texas identifies water
systems as "Approved" with signs posted at municipal limits. What does approved, acceptable,
or any other State agency determination mean for the water utility..
