4. Significants of Biodiversity
Biodiversity is very important for human
life, as we depend on plants ,micro-
organisms, earth’s animals for food ,
medicine and industrial products.
Biodiversity protects the fresh air, clean
water and productive land.
It is also important for forestry , fisheries
and agriculture, which depend on rich
variety of various biological resources
available in nature.
5. Biodiversity indicates variations of life
forms(species, ecosystem )
It supplies oxygen for our breathing .
Biodiversity provides services like : air
quality and purity , climate and season,
water purification , pollination and seed
dispersal ,Prevention of erosion .
Biodiversity also support in drug
discovery for modern medicine.
6. Types of Biodiversity
GENETIC DIVERSITY : diversity in
the alleles of a single gene . Eg: difference
in coat color of rabbits.
ORGANISMAL DIVERSITY:
difference in in morphology ,anatomy ,
behaviour of organisms.
POPULATION DIVERSITY: variations
observed quantitative ecological
parameters such frequency ,density and
abundance etc.
7. SPECIES DIVERSITY : measures the
species number variations in different
genera at particular habitat.
COMMUNITY DIVERSITY :
variability among community composition
of an ecosystem and variation in the
ecological interactions .
ECOSYSTEM DIVERSITY : it deals
with the variations of interdependence of
biotic and abiotic factors in ecosystem .
LANDSCAP DIVERSITY : measures
the species composition in different land
24. WILDLIFE CONSERVATION
Wildlife conservation is an activity in
which humans make conscious efforts to
protect plants and other animal species
and their habitats. Wildlife conservation is
very important because wildlife and
wilderness play an important role in
maintaining the ecological balance and
contribute to human quality of life.
