Beijing aims to develop its general aviation industry over the next 5-10 years. It plans to become an important R&D and manufacturing hub for general aviation with international standards, a major operation center for corporate aircraft, and the most important service center in Asia Pacific known for aviation sales, exhibitions, finance and education. This would create a strategic emerging industry worth 300 billion yuan for Beijing. 4. Beijing’s Headquarter Economy
Beijing has accommodated 48 global headquarters of the Fortune Global 500, ranking first in the
world, overtaking Tokyo and New York.

There are 1,200 first-level headquarter enterprises in Beijing, making up 0.4% of the total Beijing
companies, one fourth of employees, about one half of the value added of GDP and 60% of income
and tax revenue.
The feature of headquarter economy has determined that Beijing is the center of information,
management and marketing, the hub to exploit the national market and manage the state affairs as well
as the springboard to explore the international market and attain international development.

5. Beijing’s Open Economy
In 2012, for the first time, the service trade in Beijing overtook 100 billion US dollars and reached 100.02 billion US
dollars, a year-on-year rise of 11.7%, making up 20.2% of the total volume of service trade in China and 1.18% in
the world. Among it, exports in service trade were 44.51 billion US dollars, a year-on-year growth of 7.3%, making up
19.9% of the total volume of the exports in service trade in the country; imports in service trade were 55.51 billion US
dollars, a year-on-year increase of 15.6%, making up 20.3% of the total volume of the imports in service trade.
In 2013, the total value of imports and exports in Beijing were 429.1 billion US dollars, up by 5.1% over the
previous year, with the growth rate 0.3 percentage points higher than that in the previous year. Among it, exports were
63.2 billion US dollars, an increase of 6.1%, with the growth rate 5 percentage points higher; imports were 365.9 billion
US dollars, a rise of 5%, with the growth rate 0.4 percentage points lower.
Beijing has maintained economic, trade and investment exchanges with over 200 countries and regions.
In 2013, the foreign investment in actual use in Beijing was 8.52 billion US dollars, up by 6% over the
previous year.

6. Beijing’s Service-based Economy
In 2013, the value added of the tertiary industry in
Beijing was 1498.65 billion yuan, accounting for 76.9%
of the GDP in Beijing. The value added of the financial
industry, science & technology service industry and
commercial service industry went up by 11%, 10% and
8% respectively. Thus, Beijing has become the first
service-dominated city in China.

7. Beijing’s Consumption-dominated Economy
In 2013, the total retail sales of consumer goods in
Beijing realized 837.51 billion yuan, up by 8.7% over the
previous year. Different from many other Chinese cities
whose GDP growth is mainly boosted by investment,
Beijing’s consumption has contributed up to 60%-70% to
its economic growth. Since 2008, the purchasing power
per capita in Beijing has stayed in the first place in the
