4. HISTORY
The Lahore General Hospital was inaugurated on 29
January,1959 by the Governor of West Pakistan, Akhtar
Hussain.Initially, the hospital functioned as a convalescent home
for the patients from the Mayo Hospital. In 1966, the
Department of Neurosurgery of King Edward Medical College
was set up at the Lahore General Hospital. In the next few
decades, other departments were established and associated with
the hospital.
In 1998, Lahore General Hospital was declared an autonomous
hospital and Khurshid Ahmad was appointed as first Chief
Executive of the hospital.
Presently, it is a 1600-bedded hospital. In 2017, it became the
first public sector hospital to successfully perform a
Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy.

Lack of instructions for the patients to locate labs
OPDs wards in a hospital.
Insufficient lab facilities including working
equipment's in comparison to numbers of bed.
Lack of supervision of doctors and staff members by
higher authorities.

due to limited numbers of beds.
Inadequate measures for
sterilization to prevent hospital
acquired infection.

Hospital staff should be cooperated with
patients & should provide proper guidelines
to locate labs OPDs ward to patients.
Proper lab facilities with new working
equipment’s should be provided by the
government to hospital.
Higher authorities should check doctors &
staff by visiting the hospital.

Government should provide proper budget to increase
the number of beds so no patient should suffer late
admission.
Syringes and surgical equipment repetition on
different patients should be strictly prohibited without
adequate sterilization so further spread of deadly viral
infections should be stopped and medical waste
should be disposed properly.

Inadequacy of health personals to

The performance of doctors and paramedical staff can
be enhanced by giving appropriate incentives to them.
Strict action should be taken by high authorities of
hospital against doctors & paramedical staff if they
are absent without any reason during their duty, heavy
fine should be imposed.
Health awareness speeches should be conducted by
doctors.
13. PROBLEMS
DUE TO
PATIENTS:
Inferiority complex in patients due to poverty
make them feel that they are not treated
properly.
Illiteracy and poverty of patients are major
factors that create problems for them in
hospitals.
Non-obedience by the patient and family to
follow doctor's advice.
Lack of facilities and securities of doctors.
15. SOLUTIONS
This can be removed by proper understanding
between doctor & patient and by providing friendly
atmosphere.
Poverty of patient is major factors face in hospital and
it can be removed by providing free medicine &
proper treatments to patient by providing health aid
by government.
Patients usually do not observe the follow up
probably owing to overload in government hospital.
Sometimes after initial response and feeling better,
they ignore doctors’ advices. So, measure should be
taken to improve the understandings, the importance
of follow-up and doctor advice.
16. Facing Fake Medicine
There is also a very big problem of fake medicines.
Recently most of the people died because of these
fake medicines, especially the people who suffer from
heart problems.

The government should establish institutions and
make some specials teams whose only duty should be
to check and apprehend such people as are involved
in the business of fake medicines.

The government should provide latest
equipment to doctors and make the things
better. All over the Pakistan there is not a
single government hospital which has pure
water.
22. RECOMMENDATIONS
The patients and its accompanying persons,
who are already in huge amount of stress.
Should not be disturbed more by rough
behavior of staff.
Personality development program and other
training programs should be encouraged for
bettering managing the organization.
Employees should be provided with great
working atmosphere so that they can work in
harmony and also can get a chance to move
forward and flourish, career wise.
