1. Evaluation on prelim
I think, for one of my first tasks, the prelim went well. It showed match on action, continuity
and the 180 degree rule.
I have learnt for next time that I should focus more on lighting and my use of frame. I will
focus on this because in my prelim there were sudden changes in lighting which slightly took
away from the continuity of the video. I could correct this through editing next time as my
skills improve or I could just keep lighting in mind when filming and doing things like not
blocking the light, etc.
The issue I had with my use of frame is that I wasn’t utilising in the most efficient way. For
example: I would have a shot with just one character in but not taking up much space in the
frame. This would leave a large unused area of the frame which next time, I can use to give
away as much information about characters/the scene as possible.
I have learnt that audio is very important in the continuity of the clip. Next time I’ll know to
overlap audio so the audience is less likely to notice any significant change in background
noise and makes any dialogue more fluid. I have also learnt, on evaluating, that you do not
need to have the character talking on screen every time as it can become very repetitive
doing shot / reverse shot like this in a conversational scene.
