In the modern world, almost every region
has adopted “the knowledge based
economy” slogan. The knowledge based
economy addresses how the education
and knowledge, typically called human
capital, can serve as a productive asset or
a business product. The innovative
services and products can be sold out and
exported to yield profits for the
individuals, the businesses and the
economy. This component of the
economy relies greatly on intellectual
capabilities instead of natural resources or
physical contributions. In the knowledge
economy, products and services that are
based on intellectual expertise advance
technical and scientific fields encouraging
innovation in the economy as a whole.
Forgoing in view, University ofTechnology
Nowshera is the First Technology
University established in the KP province
of Pakistan. Currently the University of
TechnologyNowshera(UoT)isoperational

TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION
ENGINEERING
Who is an Engineering
Technologist?
An Engineering Technologist is a specialist
who is trained and skilled to perform work
in the field of existingTechnology and who
have graduated from an accredited
curriculum and Higher Education
Institution(HEI).EngineeringTechnologists
are involved in the process of making
things, using tools, materials, and process
skills to bring into physical reality the plans
of engineers (as well as those of other
design professionals such as artists and
architects). Engineering Technologists
often work with engineers in a wide variety
of projects by applying basic engineering
principlesandtechnicalskills.
WhoisanEngineer?
An Engineer is trained and skilled person
graduated from an accredited curriculum
and Higher Education Institution (HEI) in
any of various branches of engineering,
using basic foundations in mathematics
andscience,applytechnicalknowledgeto
conceive, design and develop new
processes, products and systems ensuring
safety, health and welfare of society that
makeoureverydaylivespossible.
Whatisthedifferencebetweenan
Engineer and the Engineering
Technologist:
Engineering in fact encompasses theories
relating to research, development, design
and operations whereas technology
primarily focuses on hands-on application
of the theories and principles of
engineering and science to every day
operations such as manufacturing,
electronics, medicine, marketing, field
testing,design,andcustomerservice.
In order to distinguish between
engineering and engineering technology,
a technological spectrum is used to
illustrate the differences. Generally, in an
organization, Engineers would most likely
workinthedesignanddevelopmentfields
while Engineering Technologists,
TechniciansandCraftsmenwouldbemore
inclined to work in manufacturing and
production line. The Engineers’ role are
more towards the left spectrum while the
Engineering Technologists are more
towards the right of the spectrum
although the main activities of both
Engineers and Engineering Technologists
are in the center of the spectrum.
(Cheshier,1998).
NationalImportance:
The University will produce skilled
technologistswhowillservetheirdutiesin
different industries of Pakistan and will
also be a source of great help in the
projects like China Pakistan Economic
Corridor(CPEC)etc.

Overview:
In the past, innovations were not put forwarded by the university- based research, instead, university
researchers were quietly concentrated on basic sciences. After all, the ultimate aim of scientific research is to

establish a Centre for monitoring the research and development activities at the University of Technology
Nowshera. HEC is also providing incentives for the universities with a well-established ORIC department. By
setting up ORIC, the university becomes eligible to receive funds from HEC for research activities such as
Training workshops, holding seminars, conferences in collaboration with HEC, marketing of research for
commercialization, networking events for business and establishment of academia-industry linkages. This
center will provide a complete platform to researchers and augment their research skills from the working
bench to the finished products. Ideally, university structure will support all aspects of this process, from
invention to innovation as well as commercialization. ORIC will ensure the quality of research, collaboration
between academia and industry, encourage faculty to conduct funded research and promote
entrepreneurship. ORIC will help to create opportunities for academia at all levels and engage with the

1. DCMicroGrids:
The renewable technologies such as solar photo voltaic and wind power are becoming more popular at a
household level. The integration of the mentioned renewable sources along with AC mains, and driving DC
loads are advantageous due to the low complexity of DC networks, high efficiency of switching power
converters etc. However for efficient operation of DC micro grids, there are some research challenges such
prioritization between different sources, power sharing between parallel converters , droop control and DC
linkvoltagestabilization.

ProgramDescription
Energy has been the main element in the development of a country and therefore its demand is on
continuous rise throughout the world. The growing energy demand has resulted in many problems such
as Global warming, pollution and the most dangerous is the depletion of conventional energy resources.
These problems can be eliminated by shifting to new energy resources i.e. renewable energy including
solar photovoltaic, wind, biomass, solar heating and cooling, hydel power etc. Advanced countries
around the globe such as United States, Germany, Australia and China have 20-20-20 plan which means
that till year 2020 they have to fulfill their 20% energy demand from renewable energy resources and
have to decrease the emission of greenhouse toxic gases by 20% from the fossil fuel plants. The growing
economy of Pakistan demands more energy resources and experts in this field but unfortunately energy
experts are scarce as compared to their requirement.
Department of Energy Engineering Technology at UoT Nowshera will try to fulfill the demand of energy
technologist in Pakistan. The department is currently offering BSc Energy Engineering Technology. The
program is designed such that our students will not only fulfill the needs of our local industry but can
also be able to fit in global industry and accept the future challenges in the area of energy engineering
technology.
Mission
Excel as a seat of knowledge through applied research and innovation in the field of energy engineering
technology. Provide quality education in energy engineering technology fundamentals, applications and
hands on skills which can produce competent technologists.
Objectives
The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) are focused to produce Energy System Engineering
Technologists who:
l Are competent, employable, can demonstrate sound knowledge and hand-on skills, meeting needs
of the modern industry
l

Can apply their knowledge and skills to creatively solve, analyze and design energy systems

  • 13. 17 In the modern world, almost every region has adopted “the knowledge based economy” slogan. The knowledge based economy addresses how the education and knowledge, typically called human capital, can serve as a productive asset or a business product. The innovative services and products can be sold out and exported to yield profits for the individuals, the businesses and the economy. This component of the economy relies greatly on intellectual capabilities instead of natural resources or physical contributions. In the knowledge economy, products and services that are based on intellectual expertise advance technical and scientific fields encouraging innovation in the economy as a whole. An Engineering Technologist is a specialist who is trained and skilled to perform work in the field of existingTechnology and who have graduated from an accredited curriculum and Higher Education Institution(HEI).EngineeringTechnologists are involved in the process of making things, using tools, materials, and process skills to bring into physical reality the plans of engineers (as well as those of other design professionals such as artists and architects). Engineering Technologists often work with engineers in a wide variety of projects by applying basic engineering principlesandtechnicalskills. WhoisanEngineer? An Engineer is trained and skilled person graduated from an accredited curriculum and Higher Education Institution (HEI) in any of various branches of engineering, using basic foundations in mathematics andscience, applytechnicalknowledgeto conceive, design and develop new processes, products and systems ensuring safety, health and welfare of society that makeoureverydaylivespossible. Whatisthedifferencebetweenan Engineer and the Engineering Technologist: Engineering in fact encompasses theories relating to research, development, design and operations whereas technology primarily focuses on hands-on application of the theories and principles of engineering and science to every day operations such as manufacturing, electronics, medicine, marketing, field testing, design, andcustomerservice. In order to distinguish between engineering and engineering technology, a technological spectrum is used to illustrate the differences. Generally, in an organization, Engineers would most likely workinthedesignanddevelopmentfields while Engineering Technologists, TechniciansandCraftsmenwouldbemore inclined to work in manufacturing and production line. The Engineers’ role are more towards the left spectrum while the Engineering Technologists are more towards the right of the spectrum although the main activities of both Engineers and Engineering Technologists are in the center of the spectrum. (Cheshier,1998). NationalImportance: The University will produce skilled technologistswhowillservetheirdutiesin different industries of Pakistan and will also be a source of great help in the projects like China Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC)etc.
