Chase Fund 2014 Highlights
Our Chase Fund to provide financial assistance to adult non-breast cancer patients in CNY
was established in October 2013 after local health advocate & Stupid Dumb Breast Cancer
group founder, Ann Marie Giannino-Otis and CancerConnects were brainstorming ways to
help breast cancer patients, but quickly realized there was nothing out there for folks with
most other non-breast cancers.
Named after the Chase Family, a local family who has had their own cancer journey and
made the first donation to the Fund, we immediately began raising $$$ to meet patient
needs. Via generous donations from the CNY community, as a beneficiary of the amazing
Philanthropic Foodies annual event, through a variety of very special fundraisers hosted by
Stupid Dumb BreastCancer, and gifts to honor a milestone birthday & the notable cancer
research career of Dr. Jeffrey J. Kirshner… our Chase Fund provided nearly $30,000 in
assistance in 2014 to cancer patients in need!
We provided $500 in gas
& grocery gift card
assistance to a father
diagnosed with very late
stage colon cancer, who
could no longer work and
was struggling to put
good food on the table
for his teenage son and
gas in the car so he
could see his son’s
soccer games.
We paid a $721 bill for
supplemental health
insurance premiums for
a CNY woman with lung
cancer, saving her well
over $25,000 in medical
bills which would not
have been covered by
her traditional health
insurance plan.
We worked with a local
CNY credit union to ensure
a dedicated 25-year
employee of Crucible Steel,
who could no longer work
due to cancer treatment,
would not lose his home.
We made a special
mortgage payment
necessary to enroll him in a
mortgage modification
program with a new
monthly payment he can
meet with his disability
income.We also paid for
heating fuel to warm his
home in the lower
Tug Hill region.
