Dear Sir/Madam,
I am composing this letter to express my interest in your current job vacancy
for ‘Dresser’. I feel it is vital to have an understanding of the job role I am applying for
and the duties and responsibilities the job role entails, which is why I feel my application
should be highly considered as I am already familiar with the backstage Hierarchy and
the performance environment.
I understand that the day to day role of a Dresser varies depending on the demands of
the environment and the people within them. Dressers are responsible for assisting cast
members with costume changes and fast changes back and side of stage, when
necessary. I understand that in shows, many frantic hands work behind the scenes to
ensure performers get on set, on time and with the look the designer intended. The job
responsibility of a dresser is simple to explain, but it takes the precision of a pro to
execute: Making sure the performer is dressed on time for their curtain call.I feel the
BTEC in Production Arts I am currently completing has equipped me with such a varied
array of skills to meet these demands you require to the highest standard. My BTEC in
Production Arts has taught me everything from Technical Stage Maintenance
(maintaining and cleaning lights) right to Production for Theatre Performance and
Technical Stage Operations such as setting up a PA system and rigging lights using
advanced equipment such as the tallescope; I realise this wouldn’t be part of my job
description but I feel it is important to grasp an understand of all job roles in the
hierarchy in order to be successful.
Being both a performer myself as well as part of Priestley Production Arts team has
allowed me to gain two completely different aspects to the performance experience. I
feel this would help me flourish in the work place as I have an understanding of how
stressful performance can be on everyone’s behalf; I feel this has given me excellent
leadership and communicational skills when working with vast numbers of people.
Not only have I taken on the role of stage manager whereby I had to delicate jobs to the
crewmembers and use my initiative to lead through organization and I have previously
taken on the role of a dresser at the Parr Hall in Warrington for several varied
productions. I was asked to help the performers with their quick changes backstage in
order for their appearance to meet the demands of the choreographers/directors of the
pieces. Performers commented on my professional dedicated attitude towards them
and how I have a broad understanding of the performing spectrum.
I hope you find my letter of application of interest to you and I fulfilled your necessary
requirements you are looking for. I feel my dedicated attitude and skills I portray would
be beneficial to your team and I look forward to hearing from you shortly. If I happen to
be unfortunate with my application, please would you be kind enough to inform me of
future job opportunities.
Kind Regards
Anna Smith.
