Dear Sir/Madam,
I am composing this letter to express my interest in your current job vacancy
of a dresser for your next event ‘Priestley College’s Annual Dance Show.’ I feel it is vital
to have an understanding of the job role I am applying for and the duties and
responsibilities the job role of a dresser entails.
The day to day role of a dresser is working with the costume designer, fitting
performers, storing and cleaning costumes, preparing the order of costumes in advance
prior to the event and aiding performers with fast changes if necessary.
The job description states you are looking for people who are:
Efficient and punctual
Professional in what can be a stressful environment
Someone who takes initiative
Responds flexibly and positively to modificationswithin short notice
Someone with the relevant experience in the industry
I feel I match the required job description as I have the relevant experience in the
production industry, which has been recognizedby my previous employers. Not only do
I have experience in the back stage hierarchy but I have experienced what it is like to be
a performer and the (what can be) stressful environment you can be under if people do
not fulfill their job roles to the highest standard. Being on both sides of the performance
has allowed me to gain two completely different aspects of the industry and has given
me a greater understanding of the significance of working well as a team, cooperatively
and effectively.
Not only have I taken on the role of stage manager where by I had to delicate jobs to the
crewmembers and used my initiative to lead through organization and I have previously
taken on the role of a dresser at the Parr Hall in Warrington for several varied
productions. I was asked to help the performers with their quick changes backstage in
order for their appearance to meet the demands of the choreographers/directors of the
pieces. Performers commented on my professional dedicated attitude towards them
and how I have a broad understanding of the performing spectrum.
I hope you find my letter of application of interest to you and I fulfilled your necessary
requirements you are looking for. I feel my dedicated attitude and skills I portray would
be beneficial to your team and I look forward to hearing from you shortly. If I happen to
be unfortunate with my application, please would you be kind enough to inform me of
future job opportunities.
Kind Regards,
Anna Smith.
