Veolia oil-and-gas-160728 water challenges of the oil and gas industry
AQUAECO-SRORS Brochure
1. AQUAECO
SOLIDS REMOVAL & OIL RECOVERY SYSTEM (SRORS)
A PATENTED, PROVEN REVOLUTIONARY STATE OF THE ART GREEN TECHNOLOGY
TO RECOVER RESIDUAL OIL, REMOVE SUSPENDED SOLIDS, AND REDUCE COD - BOD
OF PALM OIL MILL RAW SLUDGE BEFORE DISCHARGE TO EFFLUENT PONDS FOR
TREATMENT.
2. There is also about 0.7 -1.5% of palm oil residual in the raw sludge because the oil is in fine droplets or emulsion state
and current technology is unable to recover these. Any amount below 1.0% is traditionally accepted as unrecoverable
oil loss.
Many mills are also recovering oil from EFB press and have resulted in EFB juice contributing 5-10% more effluent.
BOD however can go up to twofold; from 25,000ppm to 40,000-60,000ppm. Wax from EFB is also a big problem.
Our AQUAECO-SRORS (Solids Removal Oil Recovery System) can remove suspended solids and wax from raw
sludge before it is discharged to effluent ponds. It can also recover the residual oil inherent in the sludge. Therefore,
this system pays for itself.
Our cutting edge patented green technology provides the first real breakthrough to recover residual oil and remove all
suspended solids from raw sludge at the Oil Room before discharge to the effluent ponds.
Heavy phase & purifier sludge are re-channeled to AQUAECO reactor for separation again.
Filtrate with no solids or oil is sent to POME pond for BOD treatment. (Video of Filtrate at discharge point to pond
can be viewed at Youtube: Aquaeco filtrate)
The process is continuous with filtrate being separated and solids/oil recovered until all raw sludge is used up.
REMOVE SUSPENDED SOLIDS, RECOVER RESIDUAL CPO AND REDUCE COD-BOD OF
PALM OIL MILL RAW SLUDGE
In the palm oil industry, mills discharge 3-6% organic
solids derived from mesocarp pulp into the effluent
ponds during processing. Current technology and
processes adopted in the mills are not able to remove
these from the raw sludge. These solids are giving
mills a lot of problems by sludging up effluent ponds
and reducing retention and digestion time of effluent,
resulting in high Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD)
and suspended solid discharge to waterways. The
Department Of Environment requires mills to
discharge final stage effluent to the waterways to be
no more than 20-100 ppm depending on mill’s
location. Failure to comply would result in curtailment
of production capacity or even stoppage of
operations. Mill operators are always on the lookout
for a solution to resolve this perennial problem.
Main components of system are
AQUAECO reactors, 3 phase decanter,
and a series of tanks.
Raw sludge is separated into Filtrate and
Slurry in AQUAECO reactor
Concentrated slurry comprises all the oil &
solids.
Filtrate is water with dissolved organic
solids, with negligible oil and suspended
solids. COD-BOD is about 30% that of raw
sludge.
Concentrated slurry is processed in the 3
phase decanter to separate into decanter
cake (solids), heavy phase & light phase.
Light phase is channeled to oil purifier or
clarifier to recover oil
Oil recovered is CPO and has FFA and
DOBI similar to that processed by the Mill.
3. INSTALLATION & MODULE SIZE
AQUAECO-SRORS plant is installed at the Mill Oil Room where fresh raw sludge is pumped into a holding tank before
it is processed in the AQUAECO Reactor. AQUAECO Reactors are built in modules of 12, 18, and 24mt filtrate/hr
capacity. The number of AQUAECO Reactors required in the plant will depend on the mill capacity.
Typically, systems are built up as multiple modules to allow for back washing and to provide redundancy. System
operation is automated using PLC control.
ADVANTAGES
The technology is revenue generating as oil recovered is CPO, therefore it is self-paying. There will be no more sludge
oil in the effluent pond.
The answer to ponds sludging up is solving the problem upstream – STOP suspended solids from going into the
ponds. AQUAECO-SRORS ensures no more suspended solid goes into the ponds, so ponds do not get sludge up so
frequently. Massive savings in desludging cost and pond operation costs.
Solids in ponds now will be mostly due to dead microbe’s biomass and dissolved solids. The dissolved organic solids
can easily be digested by microbes. Effluent discharge BOD can be brought down to 20 ppm much easier to comply
with DOE requirements as incoming BOD is only about 30% that of original input.
Fewer ponds are required; land cost savings. AQUAECO-SRORS will remove wax in EFB juice. The wax sludge up
ponds rapidly.
COD of clear filtrate discharged to effluent pond is also about 30% of original input. Thus Green House Gases (GHG)
production will be reduced by about 70%. This augers well for companies that intend to sell their oil to EU market. EU
Renewal Energy Directive 2009 stated that GHG must be reduced to 50% by 2017 and 60% by 2018.
Mills with biogas system can still install AQUAECO-SRORS plant in the mill to recover the oil in raw sludge as a
business investment. The decanter cake and filtrate can be mixed back together again for biogas production.
REVENUE GENERATING CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY FOR PALM OIL MILLS – A
BUSINESS ENTITY BY ITSELF.
4. The system has consistently shows that there is less than 300ppm of oil and less than 300ppm of suspended solids in
the filtrate. COD-BOD of filtrate discharged to effluent pond is about 30% of original raw sludge COD-BOD.
AQUAECO-SRORS is a proven technology with 2 full scale commercial plants in
operation. The system is completely mechanical.
