According to the article, there is a growing number of dissenters who think that the nation
can survive without police and become a solution to police brutality. It will pave the way to a
sizable chunk of funds that can help the community. It will also do away with the notion that the
police are the “public Stewards”. The proponents of defunding the police movement think that
the initial step towards having a safe community is by starting with disbanding the police. It will
begin with reimaging public safety and then shifting resources towards a meaningful project in
the community. Eventually, if implemented successfully, the process will end the culture of
violence and punishment castigated by the police. The police's histories of violence and brutality
are ingrained in law enforcement and can be corrected by police defunding.

The council in Minneapolis announced plans to do away with the police following
George Floyd’s death. However, since the emergence of the widespread movement, the police
department has not been disbudded. The department has managed to implement meaningful
reforms, which can act as a microcosm of how the police's defunded has influenced the country.
Further reviews are still needed to help implement a strategic overhaul that can help the
community. Unfortunately, a month after, the issue has received contrasting opinions as both
Democrats and Republican have waded into the matter.

The murder of Gorge Floyd has fueled the race-based violence and brutality by the
police. Most people have attributed police violence to abuse of government powers and,
therefore, call for the police's defunding. Others have argued that new reforms in the department
are the best solutions to reducing police brutality. Led by Black Lives Matters, their main plan is
to see the police department defunded.

The movement "defund the police" reflects the broken nature of the current police and at
the same time calls for immediate action to be taken. According to Bing, the critical change
must revolve around the reallocation of funds. There is a need to reevaluate how public funds are
spent. The plan's strategic implementation will see the police department well trained to handle
issue accurately and offer the needed services to the public.

The cry for “defund the police” has gained momentum, especially among the Blacks
Americans and other Asian communities following the brutality and racism castigated by the
police. The notion of police defunding has been an idea of the activist who has made it receive
unprecedented attention amid the recent Black Live Matters protest. It has also gained critical
attention as to the police's role in the U.S. By alienating itself from the misconception that
defunding the officer refers to stripping the law enforcement. The article explains that defunding
the police means reducing the police department's budget while redirecting such budgets towards
essential services that always receive fewer funds. Such include healthcare, education, housing,
mental health, and youths.

By not funding the police, there will be less training for the police officers as it takes
away resources that are meant to ensure that the police department receives enough training.
Sometimes, brutality caused by the police against the public is because they receive less training
and they lack tactics of dealing with aggressive or evil intents. There will be a hindrance to
officers' recruitment and retention. Since the police are not funded, it will allow violent or
dangerous criminal into the community.

Defunding the police means redirecting or reallocating funds away from the law
enforcement officers to other agencies managed by the local government; however, it doesn’t
refer to abolishing the police; instead, it does aim to see “the rotten roots of the police replanted”.
Defunding the police is not abolishing and starting new because it highlights the fiscal
responsibilities, seek a market-driven strategy to taxpayers’ funds and has some positive
outcomes such as reducing police violence and crime. This approach aims to improve

The basic interpretation of defunding the police is redirecting funds from the police
department. Some of the reasons why the police should be defunded are; the authority is
oppressive and violent. The police's reforms have not worked despite being funded, and there is
no enough training for the police to do some of the jobs they do. However, defunding the police
will lead to increased violence and crimes. Finally, the police department should not be
dismantled; instead, it should meet the national standards.

The authors explain that concrete strategies of defunding the police are needed because
previous attempts to end racism failed. There is a disparity in national budgeting as most states
spend a lot of money on law enforcement while there are beneficial services to which the funds
can be directed and help society. Sometimes, the police often respond to all problems even when
the problem's nature is not criminal. Over-policing in the community has led to disproportionate
violence and overcrowding of the prisons due to the police's overfunding.

Following George Floyd murder by the police, there were protests in Minneapolis and
many parts of the U.S. It is common knowledge that policing has been equated with safety, and it
is impossible to think of alternatives to the punitive law enforcement model. Moreover, the
criminal legal system is meant to implement deep structural policies against racial bias in
society. However, for Blacks, terror rather than safety has been brought about by police. Hence,
there is a need for a change due to criminal and violent acts that the police department has
subjected the people in. There is a need to stop investing in police and incarceration and adopt
alternative approaches centered on the community's need, healthcare and schools, and can
address the root cause of addiction and harm. Some of the argument presented by the article
concerning defunding the police are; the establishment of the police force was meant to maintain
white supremacy, policing does not keep the citizens safe, and policing diverts a lot of money
from healthcare, schools, and necessary projects that require more funding to help the public.
