2. INTRODUCTION
Shavings Supply Company (SSC) was founded in 1984 and specializes in the supply and distribution of animal
bedding products throughout South Africa and internationally. SSC is the animal bedding division of Mercor Trading
(Pty) Ltd.
The owners Clive, Gary & Wayne Mervis head up an experienced and highly committed team, that prides itself on
delivering high quality products and superior levels of service to our customers.
By offering the best quality product available aswell as professional and personalised service, SSC has grown to
become the recognised leading supplier of animal bedding in South Africa.
SSC is proud of this reputation as a reliable and constant supplier of good quality wood shavings.

3. SSC services, operates and manages balers in furniture factories throughout the country, thereby optimizing the
efficiency of the production process at these factories, this ensures that an effective removal and supply chain of
shavings is maintained for both suppliers and customers alike.
Our strength lies in the fact that we collect shavings from a wide range of factories throughout South Africa.This
diversity safeguards our supply against specific supply risks such as fires, strikes and fluctuations in the economy,
thereby ensuring a steady and constant supply to our customers.
We are able to control accurately the volume and quality of shavings produced at each source allowing us to
deliver to our customers in known measurable quantities.
Delivery is effected by our logistics arm where we make use of our own fleet of trucks aswell as a wide network
of reliable sub-contractors. Our transporters are briefed on the bio-security requirements of our customers and
of specific requests such as split drops or exact time deliveries.
Our experienced team of sales, logistics and admin staff are based at our head office in Durban and it is from
here that orders are received, scheduled and executed.
The simple mantra we follow is “customer is king” and our actions every day must reflect this.

4. TRANSPORT
SSC transports shavings country wide and across our borders, over vast distances.
This we achieve by making use of our own fleet of vehicles aswell as using a network of reliable transport
contractors some of whom we have been associated with for almost 20 years.
All our trucks are dual monitored by satellite navigation enabling us to accurately update and report to customers
on the whereabouts of their delivery and eta’s.
We use the latest in technology and prioritise driver training thereby ensuring that your goods get to their
destination under the guidance of experienced, skilled professionals.We are continually looking to invest in our
drivers to ensure their focus remains on completing their tasks in the most efficient manner, ultimately with
customer service in mind.
It is through the long term partnerships with contractors who share our vision of unquestionable service,
supported by our own transport division, that we are able to provide the exceptional service we are known for.

5. PLANNING AND CONTROL
SSC tracks and monitors each delivery from the point of loading to the point of delivery.
Our 24 hour 365 days a year business, requires a planned and co-ordinated, yet flexible control approach. This
enables us to satisfy the needs of our customers as well as our supply factories and transporters, thereby ensuring
that shavings arrive at their destination on time.
As the nation’s largest supplier of quality wood shavings SSC is committed to meeting the needs and requirements
of all our customers. To this end we have a dedicated team of people committed to the efficient and timeous
delivery of our products.With the latest in vehicle tracking systems we are able to monitor and guide our vehicles
to each delivery destination and provide our customers with up to date information as to delivery times.

6. ON SITE SERVICES
We offer a turnkey offloading and spreading service where we will meet the truck on site at a customer’s farm
and provide the following:
• Meet and greet the transporter
• Direct the truck to the offloading point
• Ensure the transporter follows bio-security procedures
• Offload bags
• Move, empty and spread shavings in houses per customers spec
• Remove empty bags off site

7. SUPPLY GUARANTEE
SSC’s guarantee of your supply of shavings is underpinned by the fact that we operate with a reserve stock of
shavings for use in any emergency.
This allows us to continue supplying during the annual December shutdown period during which most bedding
companies close for Christmas.We will deliver 365 days per year as and when our customers require.
These reserve stockpiles are located strategically throughout the country for ease of access.
This service is available to all our customers who purchase from us consistently throughout the year.
