Q BILLIARDS
Located in the Fillmore area, Q Billiards is a café designed
for people to hang out, relax, play, and have fun. There
are 3 different billiard tables provided in the café. Each
table has a different size from small, medium, to large. Not
just that, there are board games and cards provided for
those who choose not to play the pool table. There is a bar
at the back of the room, providing snacks and cocktails,
a perfect place to spend your evening and weekend. Q
Billiards is inspired by Billiard itself, which includes their
billiard table layout, stick, balls, and triangle.

The space is diveded into 2 area, the left side of the room
for people who choose to play pool, while on the other side
is where the seating lounge chair located for people who
wants to play other board games and cards. There are
three different sizes of billiard tables, small, medium, and
large, seperated by dining tables. The nooks in this area
have built-in cue holders. This area is where people can
play the billiard while their friends watch them and dine on
the side. While on the right side, the nooks are used as a
place for board games and cards shelving.
Built in seating and hooks along the wall of the space
mimic pockets in the pool table. The walls of these nooks
are angeled just like the edge of a billiard table, where the
balls enter the pockets.
The bar design style is based on the billiard triangle (rack).
The billiard triangle is being used for the shape of the bar
as well as the drop light fixtures. It mimic exactly like a pool
table with the triangle placed at the end of the table.

BAKPAO
Mr. Shen Jianhua is a very successful businessman from
Shanghai, who is very experience in managing a company.
In Shanghai he is currently running a very well-known
Chinese bun company called Bakpao. In 1986 Bakpao
started as a small dim sum restaurant, which specialized in
their bun. As they are exapandig, Bakpao officially become
a manufacturing company, with their dim sum restaurant
on the ground floor, and they become one of the greatest
dim sum restaurant in Shanghai. Bakpao start to expand
internationally, and San Francisco will become their branch

Bakpao’s unique logo was inspired by Cash (Chinese
Coin). The logo is being pictured as a Gold Chinese Coin.
It has all the features of Chinese Coin, a circle with a hole
in the middle, which then the hole is being carved based
on the steam bun’s shape. The logo represents fortune
and wealth that Mr. Shen Jianhua value and believe that it
is one of his greatest luck.
The concept of Bakpao is based on Bamboo Steamer.
Bamboo Steamer is a cooking trays commonly used in
the creation of Asian cuisine. A basic bamboo steamer
is hoop-shaped, with a latticed bottom and a snug top.
As people enter from the front entry, they can see there is
this circular space in the middle. The space has a lot of
curved walls and organic shape. Those shape represents
movement, just like how steaming works inside the
bamboo steamer.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL
WYNN HOTEL
Located in Avenida Atlantica 1652, Rio de Janeiro, State
of Rio de Janeiro 22021, Brazil. Rio, the second largest
city in Brazil, South America is a city of beauty with nature,
beaches, yet metropolitan at the same time. Wynn Hotel
has it all. A strategic location nearby the beach, Wynn
location is a good place to stay on, enjoy and relax. The
concept of the Hotel is based on Jellyfish. Jellyfish is a
free-swimming marine animals consisting of a gelatinous
umbrella-shaped bell and trailing tentacles. The body of a
jellyfish lacks skeletal structure and comprises a gelatinous
substance, which is 95% water. Water is transparent, clear
with no definite form. As they are also identic with blue
color. Wynn Hotel is a space to relax yet has a mysterious
feeling when person enters a dark room with ambience
lighting of glowing neon color. Different layers will also be
applied into the space, to create a sense of harmonious
and unity.

Elypso is a bar located at the first floor of Wynn Hotel. The
guests can see directly that the bar is located at the very
right side of the hotel, since the vibrant purple, combined
with this curve wave textured wall. The wall has a gradient
color mood, going from light blue from the top and going
into a darker purple to the bottom. It represents sea layer’s
color, as it goes deeper, it becomes darker. Those features
will capture people’s attention from the outside.
There are booth, lounge and bar seating for the overall
space. Larger circular booths are designed for a large
party. They are located against the wall with a curved
organic window viewing to the outside scenery. There
are bubble pendant lighting fixtures placed in the lounge
seating area inspired from the water bubbles.

The Bedrooms Suite is divided into 2 parts; the left side
is the Master Bedroom while the right side is the Double
Queen Bedroom. The room color palette is based on
neutral color, shades of brown, beige, black and white,
while adding a bit of purple ambience from the drop cove
ceiling to still give an underwater kind of feeling.
The Master Bathroom Suite is mainly black and white with
a touch of purple ambient lighting, again from the drop
cove ceiling. The chandelier acts as a focal point for the
bathroom. It adds a luxurious and elegance feeling to
it. And together, combined with pattern wall, the whole
room has a lot of movements and organic patterns which
represents jellyfish under the water with no definite shape.

The restaurant that’s located on the third floor has three
types of seating; booth seating, table and small bar, the
room also divided according to the seat type. There two
types of seating booth; big circular booth (used for large
party), and a four seater booth. The large circular booth
mimics the shape of jellyfish, with their head and the detail
of jellyfish’s structure illustrated by the circular mounted
light fixtures, the string attached from the booth to the
ceiling represents jellyfish’s tentacles. Circular cove ceiling
is use to emit a glowing vibrant purple color effect that
resemble jellyfish

DOWNTOWN UNION SQUARE, SAN FRANCISCO
GUCCI
Right: Level two, men section view
Gucci is an Italian fashion and leather goods brand, part of
the Gucci Group, which is owned by French company Ker-
ing formerly known as PPR. As one of the biggest selling
Italian brand, Gucci has gone internationally all to Ameri-
can and Asia. For this project, I’m going to re-design Gucci
Retail Store which located at Union Square San Francisco
(1743.5 sq ft. ). The store is a 3 stories building, divided
into different categories of handbags & accessories,
shoes, and clothing. The concept of this Gucci store is
Under the Sea. As the store plays with gradients, changing
of color mood and lighting from one level to another, the
store also used transparencies and see through materials,
just like the characteristic of water.
30 31
As in general, the store is too crowded and packed
together, since to capture a high-end type of store, the
space needs to be more spacious and organized.
There are no focal point and central of attention when you
first enter the store. The shelving and display cabinets are
everywhere and it’s kind of blocking the view and makes
it less attractive. The overall display for the first floor also
need some work, since ther are not really well organized
and it looks like they are everywhere in the store.
In the mezzanine and the second floor, ceiling height
looks too low, and the space looks so packed up together
since they crunch up all their products in a smaller space
(compare to the high ceiling of the first floor), which makes
the room looks even smaller.
In conclusion the problems are:
1. First floor too crowded, unorganized display.
2. No entry experience and focal point.
3. Mezzanine & 2nd floor too pack with low ceiling.
EXISTING STORE
To Solve this problem, I’m going to propose a design that
will turn the space look more spacious and less crowded.
Since the existing area has a lot of columns and display
retail shelving through out the store, I’m going to reduce
the amount of display retail in the store and to make the
space look more spacious too and less crowded,“less
is more”There will be transparencies, and see through
materials.
The store has 3 level of retail; level 1, mezzanine and
level two. From one level to another there is a transition of
colors, starting from the darkest to the lightest (just like the
layers of the sea). Those can be seen from the lighting,
materials of the ceiling and flooring colors.

Level one is where the handbags and other accessories are
located. As the customers first enter the store, they can see
directly the handbag display located at the very back of the
store. A cylindrical elevator located next to it has a gradient
lighting changing from darkest to lightest. It will attracts
people’s interest to go up and see what’s going on the next
level, as the lighting gradually change to become brighter.
This level has the darkest flooring and ceiling color. Most of
the materials used has a high reflectivity to add the sense of
high-end & luxurious retail space.
LEVEL ONE
Above: Store front view
The exterior facade of the building uses a lot of glasses
and transparencies which allows people from the outside
to see what’s going on inside the store. Compare to the
old facade, the new building is more open with a lot of see
through materials.
There are layers of lighting, coming down from the top
of the building. It represents different layers of the sea.
Overall the building is bright and glowing from the outside
with the use of glass and see through materials.
THE BOUTIQUE

The Mezzanine level is where the shoes are located. The
left side of the room is for the women’s shoes, while the
right side of the room is for the men’s shoes. To make the
space less cramp and more spacious, there are no walls
that divides the room, the space is one whole floor with
seating in the middle.
Above: Mezzanine level, shoes section
MEZZANINE LEVEL
Level two is where the clothing and other accessories
are located. The space is divided into 2 sections. The
men section, located at the back side of the store and the
women section that’s located at the front side of the store.
This level is a level with the brightest material color and
lighting.

Besides residential, hospitality, commercial & retail
projects, there are other projects that allows me to sharpen
my design skill including: textile design, color rendering,
and lighting. On the right is a watercolor rendering of a
cabin located at Lake Tahoe, El Dorado Beach. The cabin
uses wood flooring combinations, Together with dark
brown sofa leather. The cabin composed a lot of warm
colors in the foreground, while cool colors are used in the
background.

the smallest Hawaiian forest birds, known for their vibrant
red orange colors. Each fabric portray different pattern and
shapes, all inspired by the bird’s shape, feathers, as well as
the branches and trees. In the fabric, their red orange, and
dark maroon color is being pair with pink, dark purple and
brown, a perfect combination for furniture, and drapery.

COLOR RENDERING
Understanding color theory & principles to use color
effectively in all aspects of visual communication. There
are 3 different medium used: watercolor, color pencil &
marker. The assignment allows me to try variety of media
and apply color with regard to its interaction with materials,
light, form, and its overall impact on the environment.
The table lamp is inspired by bamboo steamer. It has the
zigzag pattern that’s made by a veneer sheet sew together
into the body of the lamp. The lamp cast a beautiful pattern
shadow that is made from the space in between the veneer
sheet and the body of the lamp.

  • 16. 28 29 DOWNTOWN UNION SQUARE, SAN FRANCISCO GUCCI Right: Level two, men section view Gucci is an Italian fashion and leather goods brand, part of the Gucci Group, which is owned by French company Ker- ing formerly known as PPR. As one of the biggest selling Italian brand, Gucci has gone internationally all to Ameri- can and Asia. For this project, I’m going to re-design Gucci Retail Store which located at Union Square San Francisco (1743.5 sq ft. ). The store is a 3 stories building, divided into different categories of handbags & accessories, shoes, and clothing. The concept of this Gucci store is Under the Sea. As the store plays with gradients, changing of color mood and lighting from one level to another, the store also used transparencies and see through materials, just like the characteristic of water.
  • 17. 30 31 As in general, the store is too crowded and packed together, since to capture a high-end type of store, the space needs to be more spacious and organized. There are no focal point and central of attention when you first enter the store. The shelving and display cabinets are everywhere and it’s kind of blocking the view and makes it less attractive. The overall display for the first floor also need some work, since ther are not really well organized and it looks like they are everywhere in the store. In the mezzanine and the second floor, ceiling height looks too low, and the space looks so packed up together since they crunch up all their products in a smaller space (compare to the high ceiling of the first floor), which makes the room looks even smaller. In conclusion the problems are: 1. First floor too crowded, unorganized display. 2. No entry experience and focal point. 3. Mezzanine & 2nd floor too pack with low ceiling. EXISTING STORE To Solve this problem, I’m going to propose a design that will turn the space look more spacious and less crowded. Since the existing area has a lot of columns and display retail shelving through out the store, I’m going to reduce the amount of display retail in the store and to make the space look more spacious too and less crowded,“less is more”There will be transparencies, and see through materials. The store has 3 level of retail; level 1, mezzanine and level two. From one level to another there is a transition of colors, starting from the darkest to the lightest (just like the layers of the sea). Those can be seen from the lighting, materials of the ceiling and flooring colors. 2 - RETAIL 2 - CLOTHING M - SHOES 1 - HANDBAGS SB - BACK OF THE HOUSE B - BACK OF THE HOUSE 1 - RETAIL M - RETAIL Above: Existing store pictures Above: Store floorplan Left: Gradient chart

As the customers first enter the store, they can see directly the handbag display located at the very back of the store. A cylindrical elevator located next to it has a gradient lighting changing from darkest to lightest. It will attracts people’s interest to go up and see what’s going on the next level, as the lighting gradually change to become brighter. This level has the darkest flooring and ceiling color. Most of the materials used has a high reflectivity to add the sense of high-end & luxurious retail space. LEVEL ONE Above: Store front view The exterior facade of the building uses a lot of glasses and transparencies which allows people from the outside to see what’s going on inside the store. Compare to the old facade, the new building is more open with a lot of see through materials. There are layers of lighting, coming down from the top of the building. It represents different layers of the sea. Overall the building is bright and glowing from the outside with the use of glass and see through materials. THE BOUTIQUE
