STAGE MANAGER
Must read the play and know it inside out
Must be organised and a good communicator
Manages the audition process so that all auditioners are seen fairly.
May be involved in notifying successful auditioners
Main point of contact for all the main departments and is responsible for
ensuring that information is accurately conveyed to everyone in the
production process.
3. STAGE MANAGEMENT
Responsible for organizing the
rehearsal schedule.
Handle script distribution and
collection.
Stage manager must attend all
rehearsals
Responsible for arranging the
rehearsal space.
Ensure that cast members are
present for rehearsals and
performances.
Provides representations of the
designed settings and record
blockings and all other aspects of
the production in a prompt book.
Stage manager is responsible for
rehearsals in the absence of the
director
The Stage Manager has the ability to
take props off the props table if
there is a scene change or preset
4. STAGE MANAGEMENT
Record all cues, lighting cues, sound cues,
etc. and standbys in production/prompt
book in advance of the first technical
rehearsal.
Responsible for calling all cues (light,
sound, and deck cues).during a production
Prompts cast with lines and blocking as
needed during off book rehearsals.
Organizes cue to cue and all technical
rehearsals
5. STAGE MANAGEMENT
Oversees all backstage activities
Responsible for operational control of the
production during production week.
Responsible for the smooth running of the show
once it has opened.
Controls the flow or the performance by calling
all cues.
Strike set after production
Clean up after all rehearsals and performances
spaces (includes returning props and furniture to
storage as needed, backstage custodial duties,
etc.)
6. STAGE CREW
Stage crew also called stagehands.
Stage crew members often are not required for a show until the technical
rehearsals begin.
Before each performance, stagehands also prepare the stage by resetting
scenes from the previous performance.
Stage crew members may work many different positions backstage.
They may be required to do general general labor such as sweeping and
mopping the stage.
7. STAGE CREW
Fly operators are positioned
by the ropes that bring
scenery up and down and
must operate the scenery
when instructed by the stage
manager.
Deckhands generally move
scenery that is physically
changed on the stage, such as
wheeled platforms or
furniture.
Quick-changers help
performers change their
costumes quickly between
scenes.
Cleaning and setting props in
the appropriate places.
