1. ECHANGEUR22 CONCEPT SITUATION OBJECTIVES
ECHANGEUR22 is a projected residency that aims to bring together artists from different countries and cultures, with a focus on
encouraging artistic encounters.

The objective of the residency is to encourage artists who share a common language to create or experiment together. It offers them
technical and financial means to test, produce and develop new ideas with a transcultural dimension, while establishing strong links with
the host area through various activities, such as workshops and public conferences.
Objectives
Establish an interdisciplinary, intercultural forum for the production of contemporary art
Foster projects with an international perspective that are closely connected to the host area
Create relationships between artists from various cultures and local audiences
Located five minutes from Exit 22 on the A9 motorway (Roquemaure exit), in the center
of the medieval village of Saint- Laurent-des-Arbres, ECHANGEUR22 is close to several
historic cities in Provence (Nîmes, Avignon, Montpellier, Arles, Marseille), which every
summer host a wealth of cultural activities and festivals. The residency is situated in a fully
restored 16th-century silkworm nursery, and has been informally welcoming artists,
musicians, actors and writers for the past 18 years. The residency project thus formalises
a tradition of artistic and cultural exchange within the building.
2. ECHANGEUR22 CONDITIONS
Professional or practicing artists in the following disciplines:
Digital/sound art
Visual arts
Art criticism/curation
Design/graphic design
Writing
The maximum duration of the residency is 3 months, with a focus on the summer months from June to August (festival period).
Artists planning to work in pairs or threes must be co-resident for at least 2 weeks within their residency period. .

Selection process
By application: applications will be reviewed by a committee of independent experts.
Preference will be given to applications that propose to bring together groups of two or
three artists from Brazil, Japan and/or Europe.
By invitation: in the case of projects directed by one or several curator(s) from
partner institutions
