ACTIVITIES2005/2016
Procur.arte is a cultural association based in Lisbon. Since 2005 it works for the
development and dissemination of creative industries, through the creation of critic
and constructive projects in the fields of arts, culture, creativity and innovation. We
invest in the decentralization and democratization of culture as means of developing
and forming audiences, so that they are capable of reflecting about the contemporary
world, through the practice and enjoyment of arts.
We focus our activity on the development of mechanisms that enable the
development of communication platforms between national and international
cultural agents, promoting networking, intercultural dialogue and enhancing
the economy of culture. We invest in the creation, development and production
of multidisciplinary works that claim a dynamic research and innovation, with a
particular focus on the work of emerging artists.

ENTRE MARGENS 2011/2013
Entre Margens (Between river banks) was a project of artistic intervention in
the historical centres of Douro region cities. For three consecutive summers
(2011-13), dozens of photography exhibitions were shown in the public
space, complemented with performing arts shows (cinema, music,
theatre, dance and multi-disciplinary), together with related colloquiums.
The project aims to promote new ways of interpreting contemporary creative
output, whilst reviving public spaces under the XXI Agenda: local sustainable
development, cultural co-operation and environmental preservation.
Entre Margens encourages and challenges up-and-coming artists and
photographers to take a fresh look at the region, rediscover a universe
centered in the river, the wine and its people, but not only defined by these
elements.
Entre Margens is promoted by the Museu do Douro Foundation, curated and
coordinated by the Cultural Association Procur.arte. It gathers the support
of eight municipalities of the Douro region – Amarante, Lamego, Mirandela,
Peso da Régua, Oporto, Santa Marta de Penaguião, Vila Nova de Gaia
and Vila Real – and it is partially financed by European project QREN ON.2 –
Large Cultural Events. Entre Margens was presented at Fête de l’Éurope in
Bordeaux in May 2012, and in Lisbon in March/April 2013.
In these three years, Entre Margens brought to the Douro:
12 guest photographers
31 emergent photographers
34 exhibitions
600 photos
85 shows
10 workshops
5 International Talks

FLÂNEUR - NEW URBAN NARRATIVES 2014/2016
Flâneur - New Urban Narratives is a network project based on an
international partnership of 20 organisations from 11 different countries.
Its main purpose is to carry out artistic interventions in public spaces
through contemporary photography.
The Project encourages artists to create new interpretations of the urban
terrain, having the concept of flâneur as a starting point and considering the
physical context of the city as a social kaleidoscope in constant evolution.
Besides the art projects and interventions in the public space, Flâneur
is comprised of several other dimensions brought to light in workshops,
masterclasses, artistic residences, creative camps and conferences –
initiatives intended to foster a critical analysis of contemporary photography
and contribute to a discussion about the public space as a social territory.
During its two year span, Flâneur will be represented in the 13 partner cities.
The artwork is created by photographers invited to pursue artistic residences
in each city, as well as local photographers, thus mixing outside and inside
point of views, and it’s further complemented by the artwork produced
in ateliers open to local residents. The work created in all these cities is
presented in photo exhibitions in public spaces, bringing to the squares,
parks and streets pieces of artwork, which would normally be enclosed in
museums and galleries. It’s, at the same time, a process of deconstruction
and democratisation of art enjoyment, sharing it with a heterogeneous
audience.
Flâneur generates a transversal overview of the different social dynamics
which are the fabric of the urban territories. The peculiarity of this particular
“portrait” is the fact that it’s produced by a broad and diverse group of
creators, who, with a common theme, take a fresh look at the plurality of
realities that define each urban space. Flâneur shares with the public these
contemporary and plural views, inviting you to engage in your own flânerie
around your own city and rediscovering it.
Artistic residencies
15-day artistic residency. Taking photos for the public space exhibition. The
work created by the invited photographers depicts an outside view of the city.
Photography Exhibitions In The Public Space
The work produced in the artistic residencies is exhibited in the public space
(squares, parks and other places) of the partner cities, in Flâneur’s site
specific display.
Photography Masterclasses and ateliers
The Masterclasses and ateliers are aimed at new photographers and local
residents of the exhibition area. They encourage the creation of photographic
narratives of the city or the neighbourhood, from an insider’s point of view.
International Conference
The International Conference held in Lisbon in May 2015, was a key moment
of the programme. It provided a broad forum for exchanging ideas among
the participants and launched the project, both at national and international
level. The papers and debates are now part of an important knowledge
database which will allow the Project to continually expand throughout its
two year life.
The project was supported by UNESCO through the International Fund for
Promotion of Culture (2015 edition), and by the European Union, through the
Creative Europe Cooperation Projects of the EACEA (Audio-visual and Culture
Executive Agency).
