MULTIMEDIA
MODULE 1
EMPOWERMENT
TEACHNOLOGY
How often do you browse online to watch
videos?
Where do you usually prefer to watch? Why?
What are the things that you are getting from
watching videos?
PRE- ACTIVITY
INTERACTIVE offers multiple choices or
scenarios, the viewer chooses which sequences
or subjects to explore, "interacts" with viewers
MULTIMEDIA is the use of artistic and
communicative media: text, sound, video,
animation and graphics in the same program or
presentation
DISCUSSION
• Any computer-delivered electronic system that
allows the user to control, combine, and
manipulate different types of media, such as text,
sound, video, computer graphics, and animation.
• Integrate computer, memory storage, digital
(binary) data, telephone, television, and other
information technologies. Their most common
applications include training programs, video
games, electronic encyclopedias, and travel
guides.

PRESENTATION
USES OF MULTIMEDIA
1. VIDEOS
 Through video hosting sites, you can take a
video and show it to the entire world (e.g.
YouTube)
2. SOUNDS, MUSIC OR AUDIO
 If videos are too much for you, you can always
record sounds. You can share your sound
bites to the entire world (e.g. Sound Cloud)
MULTIMEDIA CONTENTS
3. ONLINE GAMES
 Game developers now create what is called
“browser-based games”. You do not need to
install these games to your computer as they run
in most updated web browsers (Adventure
Quest, Farmville, Candy crush)
4. ONLINE TESTS
 Online survey forms and tests that automatically
display the results when finished (Online IQ and
Personality Tests).
5. COURSEWARE
 Online courses that simulate the classroom
online (e.g.-learning Courses using a Learning
Management System)
6. PODCASTS
 An episodic series of audio or textiles
streamed online (e.g., Stuff You Should Know,
TED Talks, The Starters, Ear Biscuits)
7. VODCASTS
 An episodic series of video streamed online
(e.g., YouTube series/shows like Video Game
High School, Good Mythical Morning)
 Designing interactive multimedia
is critical in making these elements
easy to use and understand while
at the same time creating an
effective and useful program.
DESIGNING
INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA
1. Determine the needs and goals
-set up a schedule of events (timeline) and designate
tasks
2. Learn the content
In some case the content of the program may not be
familiar to you - learn about the content yourself or use a
subject matter expert
3. Generate ideas
Brainstorming to generate creative ideas.
Better to do this activity with a group.
Designing Principles
3. Generate ideas
Brainstorming to generate creative ideas.
Better to do this activity with a group.
BRAINSTORMING produces a long list of ideas -
bad ones are eliminated and some plan/method
of instruction needs to be developed.
4. Storyboard
Preparing textual & pictorial displays of
EACH screen/scene
Each screen should be roughly illustrated
and serve the purpose of generating further
ideas.
5. Flowchart the program
A series of diagrams describing the flow of
the program.
The flowchart will contain information about
what screen leads from one to another, what
happens if a particular response is made, when
6. Detailed design
A paper based design stage where detailed
information about the project and its content is
created.
Each frame is detailed including graphics, text,
multimedia components, navigation and actions.
7. Program it
Translate the storyboard/flowchart into a series
of instructions on the computer. i.e. Put the plan
into practice!
This should be a prototype and is subjected to
8. Produce support materials
User manuals
Technical manuals
Worksheets
CD Cover
9. Evaluate and revise
Get feedback from users
Fix bugs
Final production
The team
Almost all multimedia projects are developed by
The Types of Specialists Include:
-Graphic Designers
-Programmers
-Producers (handle the day to day management
of people and finances)
-Project Managers (oversee the projects timeline
and resources)
-Writers - creative and technical
-User Interface Designers
-Sound Designers
-Videographers
-Animators - 2-D and 3-D
. Post-activity
Identify the following:
1. Means the use of artistic and communicative
media: text, sound, video, animation and
graphics in the same program or presentation
2. Any computer-delivered electronic system that
allows the user to control, combine, and
manipulate different types of media, such as text,
sound, video, computer graphics, and animation.
3. It connects the user to the content and help
shape the interactive experience.
GROUP ACTIVITY
Vlogging
Create an informative video about the locality
where you are currently staying. You may feature
delicacies, beautiful sites or tourist spots, your
favorite place to go, history and the like. Your
video must not exceed with the duration of 6
minutes to 10 minutes. Also, the Principles of
design must be observed in your vlog. Once
