Generation and Load Forecast
The responsibility of the Transmission Planning Dept (TPD) is to ensure the security and
reliability of DEWA 132 kV and 400 kV network , with due consideration to economics.
The plans developed by TOD for operating the network are submitted to the Load
Dispatch Center (LDC) for execution.
As Engineer (Transmission Operation Planning) my responsibilities includes:
• Preparation and issuance of Short term (daily) load forecast with hourly values,
and daily energy forecast using Spectrum Siemens Application and
conventional programming optimization.
• Preparation of Daily Unit Commitment schedule using Spectrum Siemens
Application and conventional programming methods which specifies in
Economic dispatch of units ensuring the specified Primary and secondary
reserves are maintained.
Generation restrictions if any (due to Transmission line/transformer outages)
Testing schedule of units under commissioning (ex. Load rejection tests)
Resource scheduling & Reactive power management for generation units
• Preparation of the Annual overhaul schedule for HV Transmission circuits/
equipments in coordination with Power Stations and considering the generation unit
outages schedule
• Part of the core team for evaluating the user experience for major EMS applications
like Unit commitment, Economic Dispatch, Interchange Transaction Scheduler,
Load forecast etc.
• Daily coordination and planning of Generation related Transmission Outages with
system study section
• Preparation of Daily Generation/Transmission 132 kV and 400 kV related switching
program
• Coordinate and manage the commissioning of the new generation units,
includes preparing commissioning switching programs.

3. • Responsible for enhancing the daily Unit Commitment and cost saving
Interconnection
• Preparation/Updating ENG Operating Procedures and follow up on changes
• Preparation/Updating DEWA DUBAL Operating and Emergency Procedures and follow up
on changes
• Attending meetings on Emirates Network Grid Issues, Interconnection Codes, Metering
issues etc with EMC, EDF & other utilities.
• Preparation and validation of ENG database file based on uncompensated energy meters
readings.
• Reconciliation and finalization of Compensation Programs with Emirates Monitoring Centre
on Weekly basis.
• Coordination with various Transmission Operation Department sections on implementation
of Compensation programs and using in different reports.
• Preparation, review & comments on various ENG (Emirates Network Grid) and DUBAL
Documents/Codes and procedures.
• Using SIGLON SOFTWARE to find out the energy meter readings for the inter-connectors.
• Attending/Managing coordination meetings with DUBAL on ENG (Emirates Network Grid)
issues, MW/MVAr exchanges etc.
• Coordination on Interconnectors' Outages/Caution Permits with ENG (Emirates Network
Grid), EMC, concerned Authority, DEWA (Generation) and DEWA (Transmission).
• Coordination for various Tests on DEWA (Dubai), DUBAL units and units of other
Authorities.
• Miscellaneous Coordination/Correspondences with DUBAL, EMC, ENG (Emirates Network
Grid) & other Authorities on Routine & Non-Routine Issues (MW/MVAr Exchanges, K-factor,
Reserves, AGC, Bilateral Agreement etc).
• Exchanging Primary Reserve, Secondary Reserve and AGC margin data with EMC
• Provide technical training for the new staff of engineers.

4. Maintenance
• Coordination with PSS/E, DLF and other EMS Applications specialists in order to analyze
the study results and recommendations.
• Prepare Bar Chart report to explain the summary for one week in advance planned outages
• Attending site commissioning of new substations.
• Update Job Management System. Keep track of Work and caution permits. Updating
DEWA network diagram following every change.
• Attending meetings with concerned maintenance and Projects teams to discuss and finalize
long outages durations and coordinating with all parties to avoid outage repetition.
2) System Control Engineer October 2003 till August 2008
National Energy Control Center (NECC) – Cairo – Egypt.
• Monitor, analyze, dispatch and control the operation of all transmission, generation and
interconnection facilities to insure reliable service to customers.
• Monitor line loading and take necessary actions to maintain it within operating limits.
• Supervise voltages to maintain them within technical limits.
• Supervise the operating reserve and take appropriate action to maintain all types of reserve
according to criteria.
• Control economic operation using “Unit Commitment and AGC” software to synchronize
load or shut down units.
• Monitor system frequency to maintain it within technical limits.
• Control network configuration to ensure spot contingency system conditions within
emergency limits and short circuit level within switchgears rating.
• Take appropriate action when forced outages occur to restore network status to normal
operating limits.
• Analyze forced outages and disturbances using “Sequence of Events” software (SOE) and
protection schemes.

5. • Restore power supply and grid at minimal time under power interruption conditions.
