Power BI gateways allow access to on-premises data sources from Power BI reports. There are two types of gateways: 1) A personal gateway allows a single user to connect to sources for use in Power BI reports only. 2) An enterprise gateway allows multiple users to connect to multiple sources for use across Power BI, PowerApps, and other tools, with centralized management. The enterprise gateway is better suited for complex scenarios involving multiple users and data sources.

2. Gateways
 A Power BI gateway is software that you install within an on-
premises network it facilitates access to data in that network.
 It's like a gatekeeper that listens for connection requests, and
grants them only when a users' requests meet certain criteria.
 This lets organizations keep databases and other data sources
on their on-premises networks, yet securely use that on-
premises data in Power BI reports and dashboards.

8. Points to Remember
 Gateways should be installed on a computer that is always on.
 Performance may be slower on a wireless network.
 You cannot have Enterprise and Personal Gateway on the same machine.
 Gateway is required when you need a schedule data refresh on On-Prem Datasource imported into Power BI
service. Uses of Direct query and Analysis services to query data from Power BI service
If Web.page() is utilized in M-Query
 Gateway is not required if your datasource belong to-
1.Azure SQL Database,Azure SQL Data warehouse, Azure Analysis Services
2.Microsoft dynamics, Salesforce, Content Packs
3.Files stored in OneDrive or Sharepoint..etc
