3. Upper School Student Life
Welcome, Class of 2024 Students and Families,
We have many exciting opportunities to share in the upper school and are looking forward to having you join our
community.
This presentation walks you through the elements of student life and the various experiences students in grades 9-
12 have and the choices they make that engage their peers and passions, exercise leadership and teamwork, and
explore interests through various formats.
Student life at the upper school is built both into the fabric of our daily and weekly schedule, assuring all students
have access, as well as extending beyond the school day.
This document and additional details will be shared at the virtual Freshmen Orientation Q&A on Wednesday, May
27, 2020, at 6:30 pm. The zoom link and structure of that event will be shared with families shortly.
Please contact me with any questions you may have and I look forward to meeting with each of you this summer.
Mr. Dan Axford, Dean of Students

9. Community ServiceCommunity Service
Moravian Academy considers service to both the school community and the broader communities in
which we live an important part of the education we provide. Students are required to engage in a
service project each year .
40 hours to Community Service must be completed by the start of their senior year. This is the
minimum hours to meet the graduation requirement.
-If only the minimum is met, no more than ½ may be from on-campus work.
x2VOL.com is our online resource for
community service tracking. At the start of 9th-grade, each student will have an account created for
them in x2vol that will allow them to submit service work for verification and tracking. This will
prove significantly useful in scholarship and college planning documentation.
Community Service Resources: volunteerlv.org and jerseycares.org

13. Upper School Clubs and Activities
Club and Activities are student-led and advised by a current upper school faculty or staff member. They
range in focus from purpose to play-based. Engineering, Business, Technology, Literature, as well as
service based activities are available. Students also find opportunities with Floor Hockey, Ultimate Frisbee,
Ping Pong, and other play-based options. Currently, there are over 60 clubs to chose from. Students
interested in starting new clubs will meet with the Dean of Students to present their ideas, identify 5 or more
students interested in joining, and then an advisor and timeline to begin is determine. New clubs will not
begin until 2nd semester.
Clubs and Activities are selected during the second week of school each fall. After a school meeting
presentation of available clubs, students then select two clubs, one from each weekly offering list.
Clubs meet every other week. We alternate meetings with Week 1 Activities and Week 2 Activities. All
student must select one from each week’s list.
An updated Club and Activity directory will be shared at Upper School Orientation in August, just prior to
the start of school. The 2019-20 Directory can be viewed as an example and found on the “downloadable
resources” slide at the end of this document.
