Responsible for teaching English Language Arts to over 150 high school students per
year including grading, planning, counseling, and researching at Scarborough
High School.
• Implemented literature circles which incorporated reading activities, journaling,
two column notes, and conversations about text. This system reintroduced love of
reading, created a sense of cohesion, and produced a more relaxed learning
atmosphere, with 95% student engagement.
• Successfully created word wall, crossword puzzles, sentence writing activities,
and a bonus point system which motivated students to use vocabulary words
properly in class.
• Instituted point system which took off points for disruptive behavior and created
performance scale for group work keeping students accountable for behavior as
well as learning important workplace skills.
• Coached students to develop more assertive communication skills with teachers
and students which helped to generate more effective responses.
• Developed individualized learning techniques to meet student needs and style
which resulted in helping failing students improve grades.
