FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS
SKILLS
During my practicum I gained experience with assessment pertaining to Success
Criteria and Rubrics. This will help children develop in all subject areas
Gained experienced with balanced literacy units, literature circles, and learning
cycles, where all children can achieve their literacy objectives.
The assessment used for the learning cycle was diagnostic, formative and
summative, where lessons were taught to improve student writing skills.
Attained Valuable Smart Board training during my professional year.
During Practicums I used educational aids to enhance student’s retention and
learning. These included math manipulatives, jeopardy game and graphic
organizers which were modified for children that were on an IEP.
Experienced incorporating technology in the classroom this included celebrating
children work on an online bulletin board. Children created a bit strips comic as
their culminating activity and then later created a voice recorded time line of the
war of 1812.
PERSONAL MANAGEMENT SKILLS
Arriving early to placement allowed me to prepare for lessons, help children with
any questions before class started as well as during recess and design lessons
engaging lessons for the children.
Striving to be a lifelong learner, after graduating I went back for another year.
Have shown that I can successfully carry out instructions, work
independently,
I am good at problem solving and excellent time management skills.
Moving outside of my current community will allow me to continue to grow as a
person and become and better teacher.
TEAMWORK SKILLS
Developed teamwork skills as a member of the East Elgin Field Hockey team
and various hockey teams I played on in nearby towns.
In the past I have worked for Tim Hortons. During this time I have organized
volunteers to help with activities on Camp Day and organized the activities.
Through this process I learned how to ask the community members for prize
donations. This will help me to plan and actively participate in extra-curricular
activities.

VISION FOR EDUCATION November 2015 to present

ENGAGE EDUCATION Sept 14, 2015 to Oct. 2015
Supply Teacher –various schools Peterborough, UK
MITCHELL HEPBURN PUBLIC SCHOOL March 2012 – April 2012
Thames Valley District School Board St.Thomas, ON, CA
Teacher Candidate – Year 8
Planned and delivered math, science and geography lessons to 32 Year 8
children.
I taught a math unit on probability, where the children predicted the outcomes of
dice and coins. Children were encouraged to use dice and coins to create the
actual outcomes for this activity.
In the science unit the children created a fish bone diagram that summarized the
important parts of the chapters leading up to a quiz.
All lessons were adjusted to fit the needs of diverse learning styles.
I assisted with a literature circle that our children participated in with a class from
another school. The children used various forms of technology to talk with their
partners from the other school. The children in both classes were divided into
literature circle groups where the children were at similar levels. The children
were each given a role every week and rotated so that each student completed
every role (summarizer, vocabulary enricher, commentator, discussion facilitator,
reflector, and illustrator). This process helped the children to have a better
understanding of the book and they were able to learn in an engaging way.
Accompanied children on a field trip to another school where they watched the
movie of the book that was read for their literature circles. Following the movie
the children completed a Venn diagram to show the comparisons between the
book and the movie, and discussed findings with them class.
Supervised children that went to a math conference to compete against other
schools. The children were given different tasks and as a group attempted to
complete within the time limit.
WESTMOUNT PUBLIC SCHOOL Sept. 2011 - April 2012
Lakehead Public School Board Thunder Bay, ON, CA
Literacy Coach – Year 6/7 class (one day a week)
Facilitated a guided reading group with a small group of children. During this
time we would read the book out loud together, focusing or reading
comprehension and the pronunciation of more difficult words for the children.
I worked one on one with a student in math, using math manipulatives to help the
student understand the concept.
Supervised children on a field trip to learn and be accepting and be aware of
diverse cultures such as aboriginal culture. Police were also involved to give a
presentation on substance abuse.
DAVENPORT PUBLIC SCHOOL Nov. 2011 – Dec. 2011
Thames Valley District School Board Aylmer, ON, CA
Teacher Candidate – Year 6
Planned and delivered math, literacy and social studies lessons to twenty-six
Year 6 children.
Completed bulletin boards to show examples of student work
Taught a complete learning cycle. The learning cycle used a diagnostic,
formative and summative assessment. By using this form of assessment I was
able to teach lessons in between the assessments on the areas in which the
children were struggling. The learning cycle taught the children how to write
open response style papers. The learning cycle was cross-curricular with
science, so the stories read were pertaining to the human organ systems.
Adjusted lessons to respond to the needs of diverse learning styles. Worked with
children who were on IEP’s. Allowed children to use the technology that was
available to them when needed, one student required a keyboard for writing.
Assisted with delivering physical education lessons to eight children of the Active
Learning Class (children with disabilities).
