2. MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS
Established in 1955, National Merit Scholarship Corporation
(NMSC) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that
operates without government assistance.
It helps mostly citizens and permanent residents. Various
schools have their own President merit scholarships like, for
example, City University of Seattle:
• President’s Merit Award Scholarship: A
$5,000 scholarship disbursed evenly during
the first three quarters of enrollment in the
student’s selected academic program.
• Academic Achievement Scholarship: A
$2,000 scholarship, disbursed evenly during
the first three quarters of enrollment in the
student’s selected academic program.
3. SCHOOL CLUB AND DIVERSITY
It literally pays off if you have a talent in sports or arts as many colleges and universities will offer a student
scholarships to endorse bright talents and help them financially.
Each school is slightly different. Look for school clubs that offer scholarships, like Enactus.
• To apply for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
• Student must maintain good-academic standing while holding the position of president and president-elect
• Resignation of position terminates the scholarship
• Revocation of position terminates the scholarship
• Diversity Scholarship eligibility:
• Be part of an ethnic minority population
• Demonstrate financial need
• Meet the admissions requirements for a teacher certification program
4. LARGE CORPORATIONSOFFER THESE SCHOL ARSHIPS:
• Burger King Scholars Program$25,000 January. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, work part-time an
average of 15 hours per week unless there are extenuating circumstances, participate in community service or other
activities, demonstrate financial need and plan to enroll in an accredited two- or four-year college, university or
vocational/technical school by the fall term of the graduating year. Applicants do NOT need to work at Burger King,
but Burger King employees are eligible.
• Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship$100,000 Fall. Awarded to high school seniors, 21 years of age and
younger, from diverse communities who have outstanding scholastic, community service and employment
performance.
• Duck Brand Duct Tape Stuck at Prom Contest$10,000 July. Applicants must enter as a couple wearing head-to-toe
attire made from Duck Brand Duck Tape. Awards based on originality, workmanship, quality of duct tape use, color
use and creative use of accessories.
Non- Profit:
• Do Something Scholarship$100,000 March. Honors those, 25 years of age and younger who have already created a
significant impact and tangibly improved the lives of others in their greater community in measurable concrete
ways.
