The fundamental belief of Volunteers of America Los Angeles (VOALA) is that every person
has value and potential. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to helping people achieve
that potential, no matter their economic background, gender, religion, age, or race. To this
end, it provides a wealth of services to people who are traditionally underserved in order to
help them thrive.
In the Greater Los Angeles area, approximately 76 percent of people who live below the
poverty line are women and children. VOALA has special programs available to help these
women overcome the obstacles in their life, whatever those may be. It offers support
programs for single mothers, female veterans, women who have experienced domestic
violence, young women aging out of the foster care system, and other people in need.
