Dear Selection Committee,
Through LinkedIn, I found a job opening at your company and would like to express my interest
in this position.
As you will see from my attached resume, I’ve worn a lot of different hats in a relatively short
period of time. Through my training in psychology, I have taken virtually every conceivable
course available in the social and relational psychological sphere – from the psychology of
human personality to organizational communications. Chances are if it can be considered a study
of human behavior I have read about it, studied it, memorized it, or been tested on it.
However, my real value comes from my wide-array of experiences in community involvement.
Most applicable to the position, I served at a local area at-risk middle school as a specialist in
behavioral psychology. After securing funding from Texas A&M, I coordinated counseling
efforts for large groups of low income adolescents who were at risk for behavioral problems. The
gratification that I derived from facilitating real, positive behavioral change in these individuals
spurred me to pursue additional opportunities where I could apply my skills. I went on to
volunteer for the University safe-ride program, as a counselor for freshman orientation, and for
philanthropic endeavors within a service fraternity, as well as serve as the social chair in my
sorority.
All of this is to say that while the study of psychology is my passion, fostering interpersonal
relationships and affecting positive change in individuals through action are my bread and butter.
This is why I firmly believe that I would excel in the any role that is given to me.
While social sciences are my passion, the connection with people I have is like no other. With
the ability to make and maintain relationships, I use this to lead people and make decisions for
my group that benefits the whole. I am first-rate at the time management of people and projects. I
have learned to bend over backwards for the group and to finish things with finesse and class. I
would love to meet with you in the near future.
