Writing Assignment I
With a recent and steady rise in “going green” and living a more healthy and organic
lifestyle, consumers want high quality alternatives to the over processed, imitation like, and non-
eco-friendly products seen everywhere in the market today. It is not usual that we see the same
trend in concerns with the younger generation but it is believed that overtime as the growing
teenage generations parents become more concerned with it, that their desires for green products
will grow as well. With that being said this proposal is for a private brand accessories for the
junior market called “So Green, So Chic”. This line of accessories will include handbags and
fashionable backpacks that are durable for school. It is understood that adolescents at this age are
constantly in the market for new ways to creatively carry their books and school supplies. By
creating this sustainable line of bags for a large market it will greatly reduce negative impacts on
the environment globally, bring awareness to consumers of more than one age group, and
enhance cultural dimensions to be more eco-friendly. Also, with targeting this teenage
generation, it forces parent to get involved with what their kids are consuming and to be more
aware of themselves and what they consume/buy.
To put this plan in motion it will take a lot of cooperation and more than one person. To
start with manufacturing/sourcing from China or Central America would be two good options.
The benefits of both are that we have trade agreements with them and we already get a vast
majority of products from China. However, recently china has been developing at a quick rate
and surpassing the United States Sustainability wise. To work with Central America would also
2. be a good option because it is close to us and they have a wide variety of fabrics, unique hand
weaving techniques that would enhance our potential bag designs, and the labor force to get it
done quickly. China has many of these same qualities but has proven harder to work with at
times due to politics. With both regions there would still need to be a certain amount of training
done and a provided supply of materials that fit the standards of our new eco-friendly bags. It is
my belief that Central America would be the better option in order to build a good standing
relationship with them as they are still developing and are closer to us. Also, with help from the
U.S. to improve labor skills, improvement upon work conditions would come also which may be
needed for some areas. Sourcing for the recycled material can be done right here in the United
States and then shipped to the manufactures to be made. In an effort to help improve the
economy, we want to keep prices low enough to keep the demand high but not too low so that it
actually contributes to sales tax revenue. As far as location goes we want it to remain mostly in
the United States so that we get all profits, however, it can be sold online internationally for
individual consumers. As far as the process goes to actually make the product we want to try and
use a less energy as possible, create the least amount of pollution possible with the most amount
of natural product used. It is understood that this will take a lot of handy work and ore time but
these small and big steps will make a huge difference for the better in more areas than one.
