Confucianism In Korea -Spoken-
1. Slide 1:
CONFUCIANISM
Confucianism is a philosophical system based on the teachings of a Chinese philosopher Confucius that
lived from 551-479 B.C.E.
It mainly focuses on acting right and human morality, meaning people should know what is right and
what is wrong and use that knowledge in their way of life. Some countries that use Confucianism are
Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China and Vietnam. Education is very important according to Confucianism
thought because it develops a person’s knowledge about morality and shapes a community.
Confucianism affects the everyday life of people, the legal systems, and much of the culture of
countries that are somehow involved in it.

SPREAD OF CONFUCIANISM
before the Han dynasty in china, Confucian ideas were thrown away and not looked up to. When the
Han dynasty started, the modern rulers supported Confucianism and it became really popular all over
china. Soon the idea of Confucianism spread away from china and for example to Japan, where the
leaders also liked the ideas and started encouraging people to use Confucianism in life.
Slide 3:
CONFUCIAN THOUGHT
Confucianism was built on many concepts, or logical ideas or solutions. The concepts were taught to
people in simple easy thoughts for example in quotes. For example “in order to govern others one must
first govern oneself”. this idea taught people that a person who has to lead many others should also
know how to lead himself. Confucianism was more of a way of living than an actual religion. And helped
to guide many Koreans in everyday life. The ideas were made to make people set rules for their own life,
and know what is right and what is wrong.
Slide 4:
FURTHER SPREADING
Confucius’ ideas later arrived in Europe and interested the public and many educated people. Later, his
scripts were translated into many European languages. Confucianism was also believed to be a religion
in many countries it spread to, because of how they made rituals, sacrifices and worshipped their
ancestors. In Asian countries that Confucianism spread to, leaders supported it strongly and included it
in education.
