2.  What It Is:
 A human service profession that blends the disciplines
of ART and PSYCHOLOGY
 Clients of varied populations use ART and creative
process IN therapy and AS therapy.
 Communication with art uses the universal language to
promote connection and healing relationships with self

3.  Masters degree is required to work as a clinical art
therapist.
 AATA approved graduate programs
 60 credit program meets/exceeds standards of
CACREP (Counseling)
 Graduates are ready to sit for LPC exams

4.  The Master of Arts in Art Therapy (MAAT) established
at Albertus Magnus College in 1997, conceptualized by
Dr. Ragaa Mazen.
 Approved by AATA Educational Programs Approval
Board (EPAB) in 2003 and 2010
 Housed within the Psychology Department, with
afternoon, evening and some weekend courses

 3 semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer)
 Majority of courses are evening; some are afternoon
 Classes meet 1x week per course

9.  REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION OF
APPLICATION:
 Bachelor’s degree from an Accredited college or
university
 2.8 GPA (minimum)
 18 credits in studio art (drawing, painting,
ceramics/sculpture)
 15 credits in psychology (developmental, abnormal,
statistics)
 Proficiency in English- TOEFL score minimum of 94/120
 Admission is competitive –meeting these requirements does not
guarantee admission

10.  All materials must be submitted before a personal
interview is scheduled
 Completed application form (on-line or print)
 $50 non-refundable application fee
 Official transcripts from all institutions of higher
education
 2 Letters of recommendation
 Personal essay (minimum 2 pages)
 Art portfolio – (minimum 10 images of variety of media)

11.  Rolling Admissions- generally take a class of 16-18/year
 Admit for Fall and Spring
 Transfer credits – up to 12
 Must match with MAAT course material- graduate work
 50% acceptance rate
 Primarily women, wide range of ages and experience
