  2. 2. Art Therapist Focus on the child's positive well-being and strive to increase their self-awareness, self esteem, and productive behavior traits. Art therapy usually combines the traditional techniques found in psychotherapy and counseling with the creative process required in manifesting visual art and human development.

Art therapy can be used to assist children with a number of issues including: •Death of a family member or friend •Childhood trauma involving physical, mental, or sexual abuse •Learning disabilities •Emotional issues like fear of abandonment or phobias •Improve cognitive abilities •Deal with the challenges of serious diseases like cancer •Treating mental disorders such as schizophrenia or depression •Help children understand and deal with physical disabilities •Understand and treat behavioral problems
  4. 4. Educational requirements for an Art Therapist Bachelor’s Degree- Study for Psychology and Art Master’s Degree- Complete required credits in psychology and art studio Art Therapist Board Certificate
  5. 5. Financial Assistance to become an Art Therapist Apply for FAFSA- https://Fafsa.ed.gov Four types of aid Grants- found that is not needed to repaid Scholarship- award that won’t need to be repaid Loans-must be repaid after graduation or leaving school Work-study- On campus job
  6. 6. Art Therapist Salary • The overall range of 30,000-50,000 and the upper range is 80,000-149,000. Job outlook for 2012-2022 would be 13% about as fast as the average for all occupations.
