Our goal in updating the Museum Store at the National Constitution Center is to enhance the visit for all guests,
create an immersive environment, and encourage visitors to take part of that experience home with them. People
seek out this destination to learn about history, the law, and constitutional debates which is why we are proposing
to bring the visitor back in time when they step in the Museum Store.
The Signers’ Hall exhibit is one of the Center’s most popular attractions. Why not recreate a similar experience
for the museum store? When guests walk into the museum store, we want them to feel like they are stepping back
in time, back to 1787. To increase the emphasis on the experience, we suggest changing the name of the Museum
Store to the “Signers’ Hall Market”. Although the décor in the Signers’ Hall was the main source of inspiration for
the aesthetics and details, we also pulled in some of the modern federalist feeling to tie the store in with the rest of
the museum.
One of the most iconic features of a federalist courtroom is the pillars surrounding the room. We created a
consistent theme through the fixtures using these pillars and columns along with the material selection. We are
visually opening the space by eliminating the current header graphics and replacing them with graphics that are
pushed back against the wall. This allows more light to enter the space. The custom pillars hold up a crowned
soffit that will also house lights to illuminate the product.
