Operator
Contract as an operator for Plains Marketing Canada L.P. (previously called South
Saskatchewan Pipeline Company).
I had been working under contract for the pipeline since March of 1998. Started with
them as a field measurement technician and worked through the office and eventually
operated the mainline from Swift Current to Regina.
My responsibilities during this period were as follows:
• Complete oil sampling B.S.W.
• Check / test electrical equipment
• Measure tanks and ship oil
• Check pumping stations, various readings and handle housekeeping duties
• Operate pumping station at Moose Jaw (located at Moose Jaw Asphalt)
• Send and pull scrapers
• Committee member of Area 6 spill Co-op in Regina
• Committee member on the CCSA (Canadian Contractor Safety Association)
• Line locating
• Dig supervision
• In charge of setting up staff training course, H2S, First Aid, etc.
• Responsible to maintain Scott air packs and tanks, station first aid kit, etc.
• Train 2 field gaugers

Plains opened a new truck terminal, where I operated up to the end of my contract.
Responsibilities included:
• Balance terminal books and truck tickets
• Inventory control
• Maintain / keep facility clean
