A Book by:
Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani —
the Promised Messiah & Imam Mahdi (a.s.)
A Presentation by:

Preface to the Book
• Life of Jesus Christ:
(1) Before Crucifixion
(Palestine Phase)
(2) After Crucifixion
(Other countries)
• Prevalence of wrong
beliefs about the life
of Jesus Christ have
had evil consequences
for both:
(a) Christians, and
(b) Muslims
3
A Summary of the Christian and Muslim
Beliefs about Jesus Christ
Christian position
1. Jesus was “Son of God”;
2. Was crucified and died on the Cross to atone for
the sins of his believers;
3. Rose from the dead on the 3rd
day and bodily
ascended to heaven; is still alive in heaven
4. Will descend in the “latter days” and judge
between his believers and others;
5. Those who disbelieve in him as the Savior of
humanity will be cast in hell
4
A Summary of the Christian and Muslim
Beliefs about Jesus Christ contd.
Muslim position
1. Jesus was a prophet of God;
2. He could not be crucified to death; instead, an
angel took him up to heaven; presently alive on
the 2nd heaven (with prophet Yahiya, i.e., John
the Baptist)
3. He will descend, in the “latter days”, with angels,
upon a minaret in Damascus
4. Imam Muhammad Mahdi (of Qureshi origin),
already present on earth, will team up with
Jesus to (a) commit “mass murder” of all those
who will be unwilling to convert to Islam; (b)
break every Cross and (c) kill all the pigs on
earth!
5
Preface contd.
• Effects on Christians
It has resulted in an Anti-Tauheed
philosophy of life that is the source of
many ills in all walks of life
6
Preface contd.
• Effects on Muslims:
Warped their moral condition
Spiritual maladies; hard-heartedness: decline
in compassion, justice, humility, …
Many Muslims act like wild beasts in relation
to people of other faiths / other nations
7
Preface contd.
 Growth of such offshoot ideas as:
(a) waiting for a “Bloody Mahdi”
(b) a violent interpretation of the concept of
Jihad.
(c) holding feelings of grudge against other
peoples
(d) sanctioning the use of force to convert
other people to Islam, wherever possible
8
Preface contd.
Such extremist Muslims (generally called, Ahl-e-
Sunnah, Ahl-e-Hadees, and Wahaabis) can:
(a) neither peacefully coexist with any other
group of people,
(b) nor offer complete obedience and loyalty to
any non-Muslim government
9
The Purpose of Writing this Book
• To revive feelings of compassion, humility,
and mercy among Muslims, and bring
about a change for the better in the
society as a whole
• To benefit Christian researchers and all
the other seekers-after-truth who will
benefit from this book
10
The Promised Messiah’s Invitation
• On the basis of Revelation from God, I make this general announcement
that the real Promised Messiah, who is also the Imam Mahdi—whose
advent is prophesied in the Gospel (Injeel) and Qur’an, and the Ahadith, too,
promise his advent—he is none other than I; however, I have come
without the accompaniment of swords and guns. And God has commanded
me to invite people toward God gently, quietly, compassionately, and with
humility…
• I am the Divine light in this age of (spiritual) darkness. Everyone who follows
me will be protected from [falling into] those ditches and trenches which the
Satan has prepared for those who walk in the dark …
• The greatest sympathy with the Christians is that I may invite them
toward the real God Almighty …and the greatest sympathy with the
Muslims is that I may improve their moral condition and dissolve their false
hopes that a “Bloody Mahdi” will come down who will spread Islam
universally, with sword.
11
The Layout of this Book
Main thesis:
• Jesus did not die on the cross
• Nor did he physically ascend to heaven
• No one should nourish hope that he will
ever physically descend from heaven on
earth.
• Jesus died a natural death, at age 120,
in Srinagar, Kashmir, and he is buried in
the Khanyaar neighborhood of Srinagar.
12
The Chapters of this Book
Very detailed and analytical; Relatively brief (pages: 93-107)
Touched upon in the Preface of the book
Chapters:
1. Evidence from the Bible, in support of the main thesis
2. Evidence from the Holy Qur’an and Ahadith
3. Evidence from the medical literature
4. Evidence from the history books
5. Evidence based on consistently recorded oral testimonies
6. Evidence based on agreed-upon contexts
7. Evidence based on rational arguments
8. Evidence provided by the fresh Revelation from God
9. A brief comparison of the teachings of Christianity and Islam and
arguments in support of Islam’s truth
10. My mandate from God and the proofs of my being the Divinely
commissioned Promised Messiah
13
“Read this book carefully …”
“… I hope from the readers that they will
read this book carefully and not just toss
these truths straight out of hand. And
remember, my research is not of merely
perfunctory kind. Instead, the proofs have
been brought to bear upon a great deal of
research and investigation …”
Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian,

Chapter-1: Evidence from the Bible
• Jesus foretold his travel to Galilee
26:31 Then Jesus said to them, “This night you will all fall
away because of me, for it is written: ‘I will strike the
shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be
scattered.’43
26:32 But after I am raised, I will go ahead
of you into Galilee.”
26:33 Peter44 said to him, “If they all fall away because of
you, I will never fall away!” 26:34 Jesus said to him, “I tell
you the truth,45 on this night, before the rooster crows,
you will deny me three times.” 26:35 Peter said to him,
“Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you.” And all
the disciples said the same thing. (Matthew: 26-32)
15
16
Jesus had foretold his travel to Galilee contd.
Comment:
If Jesus knew he was going up into heaven, he
could easily have said:
I will go ahead of you into the heaven.
• But, instead he said: I will go ahead of you into
Galilee.
• Thus, “ascending into heaven” is a story concocted by
others, for various reasons, including his safety and
security.
17
18
A Clue in the words of Jesus
that he will not physically ascend to heaven
Implication: [The real context of the word “raised”]
• The statement of Jesus:
“But after I am raised, I will go ahead of you
into Galilee”
cannot be taken to mean, “after I am raised into heaven”.
Because, if that is the case, then “go ahead of you into Galilee” loses
all significance.
• One who has a heavenly body cannot compare himself to ordinary
human beings and say: I will be ahead of you.
• It is only when the disciples were, e.g., on foot, and Jesus himself
was to be on foot, that his statement about being “ahead of you”
would make any logical sense.

“the 3rd

hour”
Mark 15
The Crucifixion
15:21 The soldiers32 forced33 a passerby to carry his cross,34 Simon of Cyrene, who was
coming in from the country35 (he was the father of Alexander and Rufus). 15:22 They
brought Jesus36 to a place called Golgotha37 (which is translated, “Place of the Skull”).38
15:23 They offered him wine mixed with myrrh,39 but he did not take it. 15:24 Then40 they
crucified41 him and divided his clothes, throwing dice42 for them, to decide what each
would take. 15:25 It was nine o’clock in the morning43 when they crucified
him. 15:26 The inscription44 of the charge against him read, “The king of the Jews.”
Footnote:
---------------------
43tn Grk “It was the third hour.” This time would have been approximate, and could refer to
the beginning of the process, some time before Jesus was lifted on the cross.

Mark 15
Jesus’ Death
• 15:33 Now51 when it was noon,52 darkness came over the whole land53
until three in the afternoon. 54
• 15:34 Around three o’clock55 Jesus cried out with a loud voice,
“Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have
you forsaken me?”56
Footnotes:
-------------------------
52tn Grk “When the sixth hour had come.”
53sn This imagery has parallels to the Day of the Lord: Joel 2:10; Amos 8:9; Zeph 1:15.
54tn Grk “until the ninth hour.” 55tn The repetition of the phrase “three o’clock” preserves the author’s
rougher, less elegant style (cf. Matt 27:45-46; Luke 23:44). Although such stylistic matters are frequently handled differently in the
translation, because the issue of synoptic literary dependence is involved here, it was considered important to reflect some of the stylistic
differences among the synoptics in the translation, so that the English reader can be aware of them.
21
Please go to the
Internet and see for
yourself how the
followers of Christianity
are trying to give all
kinds of different
meanings to the phrase
“the sixth hour”—
only to avoid the
inevitable implication
that Jesus remained
on the cross for only a
couple of hours.

regarded member of the council, 68 who was himself
looking forward to 69 the kingdom of God, 70 went boldly to
Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 71 15:44 Pilate was
surprised that he was already dead. He 72 called the
centurion and asked him if he had been dead for some
time. 15:45 When Pilate 73 was informed by the centurion,
74 he gave the body to Joseph. 15:46 After Joseph 75
bought a linen cloth 76 and took down the body, he
wrapped it in the linen and placed it in a tomb cut out of
the rock. 77 Then 78 he rolled a stone across the entrance 79
of the tomb. 15:47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother
of Jesus saw where the body 80 was placed.

he was still in Galilee,17 24:7 that18 the Son of Man must be delivered
19 into the hands of sinful men,20 and be crucified,21 and on the third
day rise again.”22 24:8 Then23 the women remembered his words,24
24:9 and when they returned from the tomb they told all these things
to the eleven25 and to all the rest. 24:10 Now it was Mary Magdalene,
26 Joanna,27 Mary the mother of James, and the other women with
them who told these things to the apostles. 24:11 But these words
seemed like pure nonsense28 to them, and they did not believe them.
24:12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb.29 He bent down30 and
saw only the strips of linen cloth;31 then he went home,32 wondering33
what had happened.34

The Tomb of Jesus
Burial
A good number of tombs from the time of Jesus have been discovered around Jerusalem, and so
burial practices of the day can be described with some accuracy. It was customary then to place the
body, washed, anointed with oils and spices and wrapped in a shroud, in the family tomb where
it was placed either in a shaft cut into the rock, or on a shelf cut laterally into the rock (see
illustration above). Then, after the flesh had decayed, the bones were gathered and placed in a stone
box called an ossuary.
The entrance to the tomb was often sealed with a heavy rolling stone to prevent animals from
invading the tomb. According to the gospels, Jesus' body was buried hurriedly before the
Sabbath by Joseph of Arimathea in a tomb close by the place of crucifixion. Some women
followers of Jesus, knowing where he was buried, were intent on returning after the Sabbath to
complete the burial process. When they did, they found the tomb empty.

A sepulchre (also spelled
"sepulcher") is a burial chamber.
In ancient Hebrew practice, it
was carved into the rock of a
hillside.
The term is most often used
for the burial site of Jesus in
Jerusalem over which the
Church of the Holy Sepulchre
has been erected;

Luke 24
The Resurrection
• 24:4 While7 they were perplexed8 about this,
suddenly9 two men stood beside them in
dazzling10 attire. 24:5 The11 women12 were terribly
frightened13 and bowed14 their faces to the
ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you
look for the living15 among the dead? 24:6 He is
not here, but has been raised!16
Footnotes:
• 16tc The phrase “He is not here, but has been raised” is omitted by a few mss (D it), but it
has wide ms support and differs slightly from the similar statement in Matt 28:6 and Mark
16:6. Although NA27 places the phrase at the beginning of v. 6, as do most modern English
translations, it is omitted from the RSV and placed at the end of v. 5 in the NRSV.
• tn The verb here is passive ( γέρθη, hgerqh). Thisἠ “divine passive” (see ExSyn 437-38) points to
the fact that Jesus was raised by God, and such activity by God is a consistent Lukan theological
emphasis: Luke 20:37; 24:34; Acts 3:15; 4:10; 5:30; 10:40; 13:30, 37. A passive construction is
also used to refer to Jesus’ exaltation: Luke 24:51; Acts 1:11, 22.
36
Luke 24
The Resurrection
24:12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb.29 He
bent down30 and saw only the strips of

wondering33 what had happened.34
37
What Did Jesus Do After leaving the
sepulchre …
• Jesus met Mary Magdalene outside the sepulchre (early
morning); Mark (16:9-11)
• Jesus met two of his disciples on the road to village
Emmaus, near Jerusalem (where he ate with them and
stayed with them for the night, in Emmaus); Luke (24:13-31)
• Jesus met eleven of his twelve disciples at the supper.
(Mark: 16:14)
• Then, Jesus traveled to Galilee
38
Mark 16; The Resurrection
16:1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome
bought aromatic spices1 so that they might go and anoint him. 16:2 And very early on the first
day of the week, at sunrise, they went to the tomb. 16:3 They had been asking each other,
“Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” 16:4 But2 when they looked
up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled back. 16:5 Then3 as they
went into the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe4 sitting on the right side;
and they were alarmed. 16:6 But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You are looking for
Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified.5 He has been raised!6 He is not here. Look, there is
the place where they laid him. 16:7 But go, tell his disciples, even Peter, that he is going ahead
of you into Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you.” 16:8 Then7 they went out and
ran from the tomb, for terror and bewilderment had seized them.8 And they said nothing to
anyone, because they were afraid.
The Longer Ending of Mark
9[[ 16:9 Early on the first day of the week, after he arose, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene,
from whom he had driven out seven demons. 16:10 She went out and told those who were with
him, while they were mourning and weeping. 16:11 And when they heard that he was alive and
had been seen by her, they did not believe.
16:12 After this he appeared in a different form to two of them while they were on their way to
the country. 16:13 They went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them. 16:14 Then
he appeared to the eleven themselves, while they were eating, and he rebuked them for their
unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen him
resurrected.

Ahadith in support of Jesus’ Survival on the Cross and
his Migration from Palestine
1. Easa (Jesus) son of Mary remained alive for 120 years [Hijaj-ul-
Kirama, and others; related by: Hazrat Aa’isha (r.a.)]
2. Easa (Jesus) son of Mary remained alive for 120 years [Kanz-
ul-Ummaal; related by: Hazrat Fatima az-Zahraa (r.a.)]
3. Allah the Exalted sent Revelation to Jesus that: O’ Easa ! Keep
moving from one location to another location, lest you are
identified and persecuted. [Kanz-ul-Ummaal]
4. Easa (Jesus) son of Mary used to travel in the land, where he
would eat wild vegetables and drink pure water from (natural)
fountains. [Kanz-ul-Ummaal]
44
Chapter-3: Evidence from Medical Literature
• The “Ointment of Jesus” mentioned in the Roman
Pharmacopeia; the Canon of Avicenna etc. — about 100
books, written in French language, mentioned the
Ointment of Jesus. Many of these books were written in
pre-Islamic times ! These books even contain an
explanatory note that the disciples of Jesus prepared this
ointment for healing the wounds of Jesus.
• The Promised Messiah (a.s.) has listed a sample of 33,
well-known, ancient medical books that were used in
teaching medicine, over several centuries, in the Islamic
world as well as among the Europeons.
45
Chapter-4: Evidence from History Books
1. History Books (Islamic sources):
– Rauza-tus-Safaa.
2. History Books (Buddhist sources):
– Lakkavati Sota-ta [Bagwa “Matiyya”; “Me-she-hu”, in
A Record of the Buddhist Religion, etc.]
– Lalita-vistra
3. History Books (Indian sources) [Arrival of
Jesus in various parts of Afghanistan and India,
including Punjab and Kashmir]
46
The Promised Messiah (a.s)’s Selective Narration of Rauza-tus-Safaa’s
Description of the post-Crucifixion Travels of Jesus
• Palestine Damascus (Syria) Nisibis [modern
Nusaybin] (It was in Iraq; now it is in Turkey) Iran
• Afghanistan [It seems that Jesus “spent a part of his life
there; probably married there; “Eesa Khayl” race of people may be
his progeny; Afghans are no doubt Bani Israel, just as Kashmiris
are, too”] Punjab (i.e., the longer route) [instead of going
towards Chitral (the shorter route) (Pakistan)
• India [southward, then northward] Banaras Nepal
Rawalpindi (or Jammu) Kashmir Tibet
Kashmir
47
The Real Reason for the Similarities
between Christianity and Buddhism
• Many scholars try to explain the “lost years” of Jesus
by theorizing that he quietly traveled to India in his
teenage and learned the teachings of Buddhism from the
Buddhist monks; then he returned to Palestine and
eventually, when he became a prophet, Jesus included
those Buddhist ideas in his teachings of Christianity.
• The Promised Messiah (a.s.) has corrected this
common error of the Western researchers. He has
argued that, in fact, it was the other way round.
• When Jesus escaped death on the cross and traveled to
India, he also went to preach in the Buddhist areas. Most
of the Israelites, who had been living there for centuries,
believed in him and the Buddhists incorporated the
basic teachings of Jesus into Buddhist literature !

Chapters 5, 6 and 7: Contained in pages 93-107
Chapters 8, 9, and 10: Touched upon in the Preface
• Discussion, with reference to specialized
encyclopedias, books, research articles in magazines,
even news items in the daily papers (e.g., The Civil &
Military Gazette). It establishes the presence of Jesus in
the lands of Hiraat and other parts of Afghanistan and
his impact on their culture, customs, and faith. It also
demonstrates how the Afghans are of the Bani Israel
racial stock.
• A similar approach is also adopted for the effect of
Jesus’ presence in Kashmir and adjoining areas, as
reflected in their culture, customs, and faith. It also
demonstrates how the Kashmiris (like the Afghans) are
of the Bani Israel racial stock.

Jesus in india

  • 1. 1 Jesus in India Massih Hindustan Mei(n) A Book by: Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani — the Promised Messiah & Imam Mahdi (a.s.) A Presentation by: Dr. Saleem ur Rahman Toronto, August 13, 2006
  • 2. 2 Preface to the Book • Life of Jesus Christ: (1) Before Crucifixion (Palestine Phase) (2) After Crucifixion (Other countries) • Prevalence of wrong beliefs about the life of Jesus Christ have had evil consequences for both: (a) Christians, and (b) Muslims
  • 3. 3 A Summary of the Christian and Muslim Beliefs about Jesus Christ Christian position 1. Jesus was “Son of God”; 2. Was crucified and died on the Cross to atone for the sins of his believers; 3. Rose from the dead on the 3rd day and bodily ascended to heaven; is still alive in heaven 4. Will descend in the “latter days” and judge between his believers and others; 5. Those who disbelieve in him as the Savior of humanity will be cast in hell
  • 4. 4 A Summary of the Christian and Muslim Beliefs about Jesus Christ contd. Muslim position 1. Jesus was a prophet of God; 2. He could not be crucified to death; instead, an angel took him up to heaven; presently alive on the 2nd heaven (with prophet Yahiya, i.e., John the Baptist) 3. He will descend, in the “latter days”, with angels, upon a minaret in Damascus 4. Imam Muhammad Mahdi (of Qureshi origin), already present on earth, will team up with Jesus to (a) commit “mass murder” of all those who will be unwilling to convert to Islam; (b) break every Cross and (c) kill all the pigs on earth!
  • 5. 5 Preface contd. • Effects on Christians It has resulted in an Anti-Tauheed philosophy of life that is the source of many ills in all walks of life
  • 6. 6 Preface contd. • Effects on Muslims: Warped their moral condition Spiritual maladies; hard-heartedness: decline in compassion, justice, humility, … Many Muslims act like wild beasts in relation to people of other faiths / other nations
  • 7. 7 Preface contd.  Growth of such offshoot ideas as: (a) waiting for a “Bloody Mahdi” (b) a violent interpretation of the concept of Jihad. (c) holding feelings of grudge against other peoples (d) sanctioning the use of force to convert other people to Islam, wherever possible
  • 8. 8 Preface contd. Such extremist Muslims (generally called, Ahl-e- Sunnah, Ahl-e-Hadees, and Wahaabis) can: (a) neither peacefully coexist with any other group of people, (b) nor offer complete obedience and loyalty to any non-Muslim government
  • 9. 9 The Purpose of Writing this Book • To revive feelings of compassion, humility, and mercy among Muslims, and bring about a change for the better in the society as a whole • To benefit Christian researchers and all the other seekers-after-truth who will benefit from this book
  • 10. 10 The Promised Messiah’s Invitation • On the basis of Revelation from God, I make this general announcement that the real Promised Messiah, who is also the Imam Mahdi—whose advent is prophesied in the Gospel (Injeel) and Qur’an, and the Ahadith, too, promise his advent—he is none other than I; however, I have come without the accompaniment of swords and guns. And God has commanded me to invite people toward God gently, quietly, compassionately, and with humility… • I am the Divine light in this age of (spiritual) darkness. Everyone who follows me will be protected from [falling into] those ditches and trenches which the Satan has prepared for those who walk in the dark … • The greatest sympathy with the Christians is that I may invite them toward the real God Almighty …and the greatest sympathy with the Muslims is that I may improve their moral condition and dissolve their false hopes that a “Bloody Mahdi” will come down who will spread Islam universally, with sword.
  • 11. 11 The Layout of this Book Main thesis: • Jesus did not die on the cross • Nor did he physically ascend to heaven • No one should nourish hope that he will ever physically descend from heaven on earth. • Jesus died a natural death, at age 120, in Srinagar, Kashmir, and he is buried in the Khanyaar neighborhood of Srinagar.
  • 12. 12 The Chapters of this Book Very detailed and analytical; Relatively brief (pages: 93-107) Touched upon in the Preface of the book Chapters: 1. Evidence from the Bible, in support of the main thesis 2. Evidence from the Holy Qur’an and Ahadith 3. Evidence from the medical literature 4. Evidence from the history books 5. Evidence based on consistently recorded oral testimonies 6. Evidence based on agreed-upon contexts 7. Evidence based on rational arguments 8. Evidence provided by the fresh Revelation from God 9. A brief comparison of the teachings of Christianity and Islam and arguments in support of Islam’s truth 10. My mandate from God and the proofs of my being the Divinely commissioned Promised Messiah
  • 13. 13 “Read this book carefully …” “… I hope from the readers that they will read this book carefully and not just toss these truths straight out of hand. And remember, my research is not of merely perfunctory kind. Instead, the proofs have been brought to bear upon a great deal of research and investigation …” Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, 25 April, 1899 A.D.
  • 14. 14 Chapter-1: Evidence from the Bible • Jesus foretold his travel to Galilee 26:31 Then Jesus said to them, “This night you will all fall away because of me, for it is written: ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’43 26:32 But after I am raised, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.” 26:33 Peter44 said to him, “If they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away!” 26:34 Jesus said to him, “I tell you the truth,45 on this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” 26:35 Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you.” And all the disciples said the same thing. (Matthew: 26-32)
  • 15. 15
  • 16. 16 Jesus had foretold his travel to Galilee contd. Comment: If Jesus knew he was going up into heaven, he could easily have said: I will go ahead of you into the heaven. • But, instead he said: I will go ahead of you into Galilee. • Thus, “ascending into heaven” is a story concocted by others, for various reasons, including his safety and security.
  • 17. 17
  • 18. 18 A Clue in the words of Jesus that he will not physically ascend to heaven Implication: [The real context of the word “raised”] • The statement of Jesus: “But after I am raised, I will go ahead of you into Galilee” cannot be taken to mean, “after I am raised into heaven”. Because, if that is the case, then “go ahead of you into Galilee” loses all significance. • One who has a heavenly body cannot compare himself to ordinary human beings and say: I will be ahead of you. • It is only when the disciples were, e.g., on foot, and Jesus himself was to be on foot, that his statement about being “ahead of you” would make any logical sense.
  • 19. 19 A deliberate attempt to misinterpret “the 3rd hour” and “the 6th hour” Mark 15 The Crucifixion 15:21 The soldiers32 forced33 a passerby to carry his cross,34 Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country35 (he was the father of Alexander and Rufus). 15:22 They brought Jesus36 to a place called Golgotha37 (which is translated, “Place of the Skull”).38 15:23 They offered him wine mixed with myrrh,39 but he did not take it. 15:24 Then40 they crucified41 him and divided his clothes, throwing dice42 for them, to decide what each would take. 15:25 It was nine o’clock in the morning43 when they crucified him. 15:26 The inscription44 of the charge against him read, “The king of the Jews.” Footnote: --------------------- 43tn Grk “It was the third hour.” This time would have been approximate, and could refer to the beginning of the process, some time before Jesus was lifted on the cross.
  • 20. 20 A deliberate attempt to misinterpret “the 3rd hour” and “the 6th hour” Mark 15 Jesus’ Death • 15:33 Now51 when it was noon,52 darkness came over the whole land53 until three in the afternoon. 54 • 15:34 Around three o’clock55 Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”56 Footnotes: ------------------------- 52tn Grk “When the sixth hour had come.” 53sn This imagery has parallels to the Day of the Lord: Joel 2:10; Amos 8:9; Zeph 1:15. 54tn Grk “until the ninth hour.” 55tn The repetition of the phrase “three o’clock” preserves the author’s rougher, less elegant style (cf. Matt 27:45-46; Luke 23:44). Although such stylistic matters are frequently handled differently in the translation, because the issue of synoptic literary dependence is involved here, it was considered important to reflect some of the stylistic differences among the synoptics in the translation, so that the English reader can be aware of them.
  • 21. 21 Please go to the Internet and see for yourself how the followers of Christianity are trying to give all kinds of different meanings to the phrase “the sixth hour”— only to avoid the inevitable implication that Jesus remained on the cross for only a couple of hours.

  • 25. 25 Mark 15; Jesus’ Burial 15:42 Now 66 when evening had already come, since it was the day of preparation (that is, the day before the Sabbath), 67 15:43 Joseph of Arimathea, a highly regarded member of the council, 68 who was himself looking forward to 69 the kingdom of God, 70 went boldly to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 71 15:44 Pilate was surprised that he was already dead. He 72 called the centurion and asked him if he had been dead for some time. 15:45 When Pilate 73 was informed by the centurion, 74 he gave the body to Joseph. 15:46 After Joseph 75 bought a linen cloth 76 and took down the body, he wrapped it in the linen and placed it in a tomb cut out of the rock. 77 Then 78 he rolled a stone across the entrance 79 of the tomb. 15:47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Jesus saw where the body 80 was placed.
  • 26. 26 The Role of Joseph of Arimathea in Part-1 of the Plot to Save Jesus 15:42 Now66 when evening had already come, since it was the day of preparation (that is, the day before the Sabbath),67 15:43 Joseph of Arimathea, a highly regarded member of the council,68 who was himself looking forward to69 the kingdom of God,70 went boldly to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

  • 33. 33 Source: http://www.cptryon.org/xpipassio/passio/arch/7tomb.html The Tomb of Jesus Burial A good number of tombs from the time of Jesus have been discovered around Jerusalem, and so burial practices of the day can be described with some accuracy. It was customary then to place the body, washed, anointed with oils and spices and wrapped in a shroud, in the family tomb where it was placed either in a shaft cut into the rock, or on a shelf cut laterally into the rock (see illustration above). Then, after the flesh had decayed, the bones were gathered and placed in a stone box called an ossuary. The entrance to the tomb was often sealed with a heavy rolling stone to prevent animals from invading the tomb. According to the gospels, Jesus' body was buried hurriedly before the Sabbath by Joseph of Arimathea in a tomb close by the place of crucifixion. Some women followers of Jesus, knowing where he was buried, were intent on returning after the Sabbath to complete the burial process. When they did, they found the tomb empty.

Although NA27 places the phrase at the beginning of v. 6, as do most modern English translations, it is omitted from the RSV and placed at the end of v. 5 in the NRSV. • tn The verb here is passive ( γέρθη, hgerqh). Thisἠ “divine passive” (see ExSyn 437-38) points to the fact that Jesus was raised by God, and such activity by God is a consistent Lukan theological emphasis: Luke 20:37; 24:34; Acts 3:15; 4:10; 5:30; 10:40; 13:30, 37. A passive construction is also used to refer to Jesus’ exaltation: Luke 24:51; Acts 1:11, 22.

You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified.5 He has been raised!6 He is not here. Look, there is the place where they laid him. 16:7 But go, tell his disciples, even Peter, that he is going ahead of you into Galilee. • 47. 47 The Real Reason for the Similarities between Christianity and Buddhism • Many scholars try to explain the “lost years” of Jesus by theorizing that he quietly traveled to India in his teenage and learned the teachings of Buddhism from the Buddhist monks; then he returned to Palestine and eventually, when he became a prophet, Jesus included those Buddhist ideas in his teachings of Christianity. • The Promised Messiah (a.s.) has corrected this common error of the Western researchers. He has argued that, in fact, it was the other way round. • When Jesus escaped death on the cross and traveled to India, he also went to preach in the Buddhist areas. Most of the Israelites, who had been living there for centuries, believed in him and the Buddhists incorporated the basic teachings of Jesus into Buddhist literature !
