The literal meaning of Islam is
submission, but when the term is used
in religious context. It means
submission to Allah alone.
 Following four things are included in Islam:
1. BELIEFS( imaniyat)
2. WORSHIPS (ibadat)
3. AFFAIRS (muamlat)
4. ETHICS(ikhlaqiyat)
 Connection of mind and heart of a man with
his Allah
 Oneness of Allah
 Prophethood
 Last day
 Angels
 Sacred books
 Display of bondsmanship and execution of His
orders/commandments
 Prayer (slat)
 poor's dues(zakat)
 Fasting (saum/roza)
 Pilgrimage (hajj)
 Jihad(struggle)
 Dealing , business and transaction among the
human beings conducted under the Divine
code.
 Relationship of a human with other humans
and with other creations of Allah on the basis
of love, fraternity, virtue and wel- wishing
 A Muslim is one who:
 Submits to the divine injunction and
 Does not deviate (turn back) from them
 In terms of religion a person is called Muslim only
when he proceeds farther than the inherent
injunctions and submits himself voluntarily to the
optional injunctions.
 This fact also necessitated that the term
“Muslim”should not be used for those who do not
submit divine injunctions.
 In the absence of voluntary Islam inherent Islam
becomes meaningless, it carries no weight
 Inherent
Inherent injunctions are those which are
unavoidable, it is impossible for any one to
defy them. All creatures are so made that they
are bound to submit to these injunctions and
they are by birth deprived of any discretion of
choice between submission or defiance
 Voluntary (optional)
all such injunctions of Allah which we are not
bound to obey because of any inherent
compulsion are optional injunctions. We have
the choice to obey or to disobey these
injunctions
 Sun: rises & sets at
appointed time. heat,
light, energy
 Air; blows, tends
clouds, nourishes
plants, provides life to
living beings
 Water: slakes thirst
 Fire: burn
 Tongue: taste & speak
 Human beings:
 Some believe in His
duality.
 Some believe in His
Trinity.
 Some add other
thousands with Him
 Some are atheist
 Some are theist
INHERENT VOLUNTARY
 Physical/natural laws
 Unavoidable
 Impossible to defy
 Bound to submit
 No choice b/w
submission & defiance
 Deprived of discretion
 Laws of Shari’ah
 Avoidable/optional
 Possible to defy
 Not bound to submit
 Have choice b/w
submission & defiance
 Bestowed with
discretion
 Different theories has given the different
concepts about the about the human life on the
face of the earth.
 The first man was uncivilized
 he was beast and barbaric
 He had no segregation b/w good and bad,
about virtue and vice etc.
 Man is among such creature who is endowed with the
faculty of will and choice.
 That is why Allah he was bestowed with divine
injunctions.
 When the first man was being sent, Allah announced it
:
 “surely my injunctions would come to you.”
 Quran has very explicitly narrated it in following
words:
 There is not a nation but a Warner hath passed among
them
 As all codes of divine injunctions ,which have
come to man from the day of creation to this
day, were sent by Allah. Therefore, each of
these religions was nothing but Islam and their
followers were in fact Muslims.
 Quran has cleared this doubt in this verse:
 Abraham was not a Jew, not yet a Christian,
but he was an upright man who had
surrendered
