18. Hi Caroline
After a quick look through some old paperwork, Iāve found my
contact at the Blackberry Foundation, not Sarah but Eleanor (my
memory is terrible).
I am happy to contact her and jog her memory about when we
last met and the possibility of applying for funding but
could you please provide a bit of blurb to help explain so I get
the ātrust languageā right as we will only get one shot at this.
She is a tough cookie! (link to bio)
Thanks
Olivia
19. Hi Liv,
Clearly - a first in classics from Cambridge! I'm scared...
Its obvious that it is the Blackberry trustees who make
decisions about all funding, within tightly bound
frameworks so we need to acknowledge and respect this in
our enquiry.
How does this feel as a starter for ten?
20. Hi Eleanor,
Memory jog / ask some personal questions / friendly stuff.
I am currently working as Head of Fundraising for East Surrey Hospital. We have just submitted
planning permission for a brand new cancer wing which has been carefully designed so that once
complete, will offer the best care in the UK as well as onsite training and development opportunities
for those working in the sector.
I couldn't help but notice that the Blackberry Foundation has supported charities in this field in the
past.
I'm also extremely conscious that the Blackberry Foundation does not accept unsolicited
applications from charities and that funding decisions are strategically made within pre-determined,
thematic frameworks.
If you think that this project might be of interest to the trustees and you would like to be kept
informed of developments then do let me know the best way to go about this. We are hosting a
launch event in September for those who might like to know more.
Absolutely no pressure, I appreciate this approach is a little forward and understand completely if
you are unable to progress my request.
Friendly / personal sign off,
Olivia
21. Hi Caroline,
I finally plucked up the courage to update and send this email. Fingers
crossed she doesnāt just LOL when she reads it!!!

22. Dear Olivia,
Nice to hear from you and Iām glad youāre doing well! My daughterās
nearly 3 and itās such a lovely age. The bursary has continued and I
know itās a huge source of pride for the family.
We have indeed supported a couple of hospitals with which our
trustees had personal connections, however Iām afraid weāre not
looking to do any more work in this area at the moment. Feel free to
send us the case for support in the summer, but I donāt want to raise
your expectations as I donāt see this changing any time soon.
All best wishes
Eleanor
Ps Iāll take the tough cookie reference as a compliment. Iām afraid it
comes with the territory when you work for a foundation that doesnāt
take applications!
25. Dear Eleanor
Itās lovely to hear from you. I agree it is such a lovely age, they are so
inquisitive and my son already asks so many questions, Iām just
waiting for āwhyā to start soon!
Iām so happy to hear that the bursary is still going, it must be lovely for
his family to see the support they are able to offer.
I certainly didnāt mean to offend, please do take it as a
compliment! You must get inundated with requests so you have to be
tough. We get it all the time with those who mean well but donāt
understand the processes. Thank you so much for your offer to
receive a case for support, I will send it through with no expectations
and if nothing else it will be nice to hear how we compare with others
you have supported.
Thanks again and Iāll get back in touch over the summer.
Until then take care, and again, lovely to hear from you.
Regards
Olivia
