2. Note from the director
The music ministries at Holy Family are diverse as they are busy.
With masses, confirmations, confessions, weddings, funerals, first
holy communions, feast days and solemnities, concerts, ordinations,
and community outreach, our musicians up the ante by becoming
pastoral in their approach to the music they make. We come from a
variety of backgrounds and our musics accomplish various acts and
expressions in worship in the mass. Together, we worship one Christ.

6. Auditions/Expectations
MEMBERSHIP IN THE CHOIRS:
• Be of 18 years old or older
• Have a desire to serve God through the music ministry
EXPECTATIONS:
• Members are expected to be present and on time for
• all rehearsals and performances. When this is not possible it is
• the member’s responsibility to contact the section leader or minister of music.
• Members are expected to arrive no less than ten (10) minutes before the worship
time in order for appropriate rehearsal time and prayer time for the service unless
hindered
• Members are asked to refrain from excessive talking during rehearsals and worship.
Come and have fun but also come ready to learn in rehearsals.

• Each Thursday from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Simbayanan’ Chorale
• Each Friday from 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Coro Guadalupano
• Each Tuesday from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Praise and Worship Team
• Each Sunday Evening at 4 p.m.
Children’s Choirs
• Each Monday at 3:15 p.m. during
the school year (Cherubim, k-2nd)
• Each Thursday at 3:15 p.m. during
the school year (Seraphim, 3rd-5th)
Youth Choir
Each Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
8. Music Advocacy/Ambassadorship Program
TREASURER – Collects dues, fines, music replacement from members
as necessary. Handles finances, includes statements and budgets,
pays bills and presents this financial statement at meetings.
SOCIAL SECRETARY – Keeps track of member’s birthdays and in charge
of making the music ministry and other ministries aware of
important events. This position also includes collecting money from
members to buy gifts and cards as well as occasional letter writing
such as “Thank you’s” and other correspondence.
9. Music Advocacy/Ambassadorship Programs
HOSPITALITY COORDINATOR – Organizes parties, buffets, purchases
supplies (with music ministry funds) delegates tasks to members to
assure smooth running and enjoyable functions.
CHOIR RETREAT COORDINATOR – For the annual Advent and Lent music
retreats, this position entails the coordination and scheduling of
rehearsal space on the parish calendar and, with the hospitality
coordinator, arranges the libations, etc. Coordinator is also
responsible for contacting reputable clinicians for retreats.
10. Music Advocacy/Ambassadorship Program
MUSIC LIBRARIANS – Distributes and collects the weekly anthems, liturgies,
and songs for use in the mass and concerts (choirs only). Must be
diligent and timely so that music does not build up. Positions are
currently filled by Grace Mendez and Nancy Niles.
PUBLICITY/COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR – Gives brief written report to all
members of Music Ministries Ambassadorship Program regarding all
local, statewide, and national advertisement for the music ministries at
Holy Family. Responsible for communications with local colleges, music
stores, and journals regarding contemporary Christian music and choral
music. Acting as editor for monthly newsletter, The Cecilian.
Positions are up for election every year in August during the choir retreat. Current members may be re-elected.

MUSIC MINISTRY PROMISE

• Understanding the duties of the adult choir and music ministry of Holy
Family Catholic Church, I will make every effort to be at rehearsals and
Sunday morning worship on time and being prepared to serve.

16. Our Guest Clinician, August 25th
Dr. Alan Wellman teaches vocal music at all three divisions at Polytechnic School. He
teaches general music in grades 3-5 and directs the Lower School, Choristers and the
Middle School Cantatori. At the Upper School, Alan teaches Western Music History and
Application, directs the Vocal Ensemble, and assists in the spring musical production. He is
a native of Chicago and taught at the Catherine Cook School in Chicago for 12 years before
coming to Poly. He holds an undergraduate degree in choral music education from the
Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, a master's degree in choral
conducting from Cal State L.A., a master's in curriculum and instruction from the American
College of Education in Indianapolis, and a doctorate in sacred music from the Graduate
Theological Foundation in Mishawaka, IN.
17. St. Cecilia Chorale
Named after the patron saint of music,
the St. Cecilia Chorale is a group of
dedicated musicians to the excellence of
Sunday worship. Our repertoire consists
of the music of Bruckner, Mozart, Faure,
Tchaikovsky, Gregorian chant, Brahms,
and other music that would challenge any
singer as well as deepen their worship.

18. Simbayanan’ Chorale
The Simbayanan' Chorale is directed by
Tom Makiling. Devoted to the great
sacred music of the Catholic church
through the music of such composers as
Mozart and Faure, the Simbayanan'
Chorale also sings in Tagalog! The
Simbayanan' Chorale has sung with the
Filipino-American Orchestra and with
the Distinguished Concerts Singers
International at Carnegie Hall among
many other concerts at Holy Family.
19. Coro Guadalupano
El Coro Guadalupano es un grupo dedicado de
músicos que celebran la misa a través de
canciones cristianas tradicionales hispanas del
himno, Flor y Canto. Flor y Canto tiene 737
himnos y canciones en español en una variedad
de estilos, que representan música de las
Américas, México, España, Guatemala,
Nicaragua y Puerto Rico.
El Coro Guadalupano también canta en los
diversos eventos tradicionalmente hispanos de la
iglesia desde Las Posadas hasta la Fiesta de
Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.
20. Cherubim and Seraphim Children’s Choirs
The church children's choirs are led by
Adan Fernandez. Each session is guided
by the Kodaly curriculum according to
grade. Children sing once a month at the
9:30am mass the music of the mass along
with their special anthem; to cap off
their choir seasons, they have the chance
to sing two special concerts a year
alongside the adult church choirs. The
children are also assisted by Ms Belen
Pachalian.
In the fall, the children will also be
introduced to the Royal School of Church
Music curriculum to guide their
repertoire.
21. Praise and Worship Team
The Praise Band and Worship Team consists
of a large cast of instrumentalists,
vocalists, and sound engineers. Led by
Renee Paladini and Brandon Kawachi, the
ensemble sings and presents the music of
Reuben Morgan, Chris Tomlin, Brian
Johnson, and more to carry the liturgy of
the mass forward in song.
Band currently consists of Geoff Gross
(guitar), Jeremy Burgan (bass and synth),
Spencer Lere (drums), Ben Stanton (piano
and synth), Brandon Kawachi (guitar), and
Renee Paladini (vocals)
