Sports mandatory in school

Amanpreet S. Buttar |
There are several sports in the world. Many people play and watch sports. In most of the schools there are sports teams. Most schools in Ontario have
sport teams but it should be mandatory for a student to play at least one sport every school year. It should be mandatory to play sports because students
will get involved, sports build teamwork skills, and the students will be healthier and more active.
Firstly, Students will get involved in the school. This will allow them to make new friends and try out different activities. Should students get involved
in? Is it important to get involved? Yes students should get involved in sports because they make...show more content...
Team work is the process of working collaboratively with a group of people in order to achieve a goal. Teamwork is often a crucial part of a
business, as it is often necessary for colleagues to work well together, trying their best in any circumstance. Teamwork means that people will try to
cooperate, using their individual skills and providing constructive feedback, despite any personal conflict between individuals. It is important to build
teamwork skills because future on in life when a student applies for a job he will have to work with other employees to get the job done. A professional
basketball player once said "talent wins games, but team work and intelligence wins championships." If schools make sports mandatory it will
teach so many students how to work as a team and get their task done. There are also some negatives about teamwork. The negative think is that
some people don't want to work with others because they don't want the students that don't try to steal all their credit and get rewarded. But if
students play sports they will be able to manage that and actually know how to deal with it. In sports everyone learns how to work as a team and
but also alone. In most sports there are positions that you have to play, for example in basketball there is post who gets the rebounds, also the wings
one wing usually drives it in and does lay ups, while the other wing usually is good at three pointer shots, and lastly there is the point guard who runs

Too Much Pressure On High School Students
All parents want to see their kids succeed in school. However, by the time a student graduates they will then feel a sudden urge of relief after have
encountered a significant amount of pressure throughout their high school years. The pressure is not only received by the school, but by society and
the parents as well. Several students have experienced staying up long nights to finish homework, a loss of interest in a hobby, or an academic
burnout at one point. It is common sense for one to say that school is not easy. Between trying to manage homework from all of their classes, studying
for multiple different tests at once, and trying to maintain a decent social life, school can become very stressful for a young person. Too much pressure
should not be put on high school students because it can lead to academic failure, truancy, and depression. Putting too much pressure on high school
students can lead to academic failure. A lot of the time when a child is known for receiving good grades they are put on a pedestal by their parents
and their school. The parents begin to expect for their child to succeed, but when they do not, it may lead to an uproar within the household. The
pressure on the child is severe, and not enough support is given. After researching parental involvement towards high school students, it has been said
that "Parents are most likely to attend school meetings and events or to volunteer in their child's school when their children are in primary school

College debate essay
I think everyone should get at least some education after high school. Three main reasons why you should go to college after high school is first you
more professional when applying for a job, next you can meet more people and socialize, lastly is self discovery. First reason why you should go to
college after high school is because of future opportunities. When applying for a job you wanna look your best and you want to look professional and
experienced at whatever you want to do. Going to college after high school can prepare you for the real world and make you more responsible. The
more experienced you look in whatever field you wanna do the jobs will be looking for someone with at least some experience. Even if you do not

Should High School Students be Required to Take a Foreign Language? In the past high school students were not given the option to take a foreign
language, the school did not even have a foreign language class that could be taken. In today's world high school students are making the decision of
taking a foreign language. Taking a foreign language in high school is an option and is not forced in many states, however, in many states colleges
require a foreign language to graduate. So, what are high school students to do? Does taking a language in high school relate to today's world?
High school students should be required to take a foreign language for college and for future job opportunities. A foreign language is required for
many colleges. Most colleges in Iowa, along with many more states, all across America, require that college students have at least two years of a
foreign language before they graduate, so if students do not take a foreign language in high school they will have to take it in college. According to
the 2017 College Board for the United States of America, many colleges require a minimum of two years of study of a single foreign language; also
many colleges see that a foreign language shows that the students is stretching beyond the basics of high school ("High School Classes Colleges
Look For"). With the requirement to have a foreign language both required by the state and by the college it is getting harder and harder for college
students not to have a

Argumentative Essay On School Start Time
Every morning students in the United States feel the effects the early start time many schools have implemented. These students are lethargic and
inattentive, due to the lack of sleep they are getting every night. Typically, adults see these characteristics as the result of teenagers staying up late
watching Netflix or using their cell phones. Many reputable organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of
Pediatrics, have researched this problem and found that teenagers are lacking in sleep due to biological and physiological changes that are occurring
within their brains. These shifts cause students to be more inattentive and reckless, resulting in lower grades, tardiness, and higher rates of car...show

By requiring teenagers to wake up early, school officials are basically neglecting the health of their student bodies in favor of making their lives
simpler. Despite the overwhelming evidence given by current research, many people refuse to change school start times because of the lack of
noticeable impact some schools had or the impact it had on some people's schedules. Pannoni cites a statement by the Iowa City Community School
District which found that "the later start time . . . [did] not reduce the number of tardy students by any appreciable amount." The principal of Ballard
High School agreed by saying that he "would be surprised to see large improvements in either attendance or grade data compared with past years"
(Pannoni). Many schools refused to change because of how the later start and dismissal times would affect extracurricular activities and students with
jobs. This change would also interfere with bus schedules and childcare habits. However, these seem like small problems that can be overcome when
the results are that "later school start times were associated with students sleeping longer at night, less tardiness, having higher test scores, being less
depressed, using less caffeine and other drugs, . . . and experiencing fewer morning car crashes" (Fenwick). The most compelling evidence that shows

Argumentative Essay On Higher Education
The United States of America has portrayed itself by being the "land of opportunities" where everyone can "achieve success" by being determined, hard
working and having the courage to grasp the rudder of their lives and lead themselves through the right path. In this nation, the American Dream is
viewed in many different ways depending on individual's culture and background. The higher education for Latino immigrants has been a concern to
many people, especially those that want to achieve it. While some individuals believe that the DREAM act will result in a college graduate generation of
hard working individuals who will strengthen the economy, others say they do not deserve it or that it will only encourage continued illegal immigration.

This act would provide a pathway of legal status and "would allow residency requirements for in–state tuition" (Erisman 20). The public and political
officials have a very divided opinion on this dispute. Opponents to this act, believe that giving these young adults legal residence and opening better
opportunities for them will only be an incentive to break the law and will encourage continued immigration. Advocates on the other hand, believe that
these students who have a desire for success have much to offer to the future of America. Erisman, claims that that students [should not] "only be
offered in–state tuition but also financial aid from the state and government" (Erisman 20), since some of these undocumented students come from
low–income families and they may find it very difficult to pay for college even with the benefit of in–state tuition. The Latino student immigrants who
participated in Contreras study reflect the claims that Erisman conveys. They were all highly "concerned with financing college and the need for
ongoing support to successfully persist" (Contreras 620). Overall the students interview in this study all share the same ideal. They believe that by
receiving financial assistance, the government will only be investing in future professional Latino leaders thus building a stronger socio–economic
nation for the

Argumentative Essay On High School Sports
Research Essay Almost all student athletes get butterflies before that Friday night football game, before the fans get to watch them compete, or even
the to get the ability to practice. Many argue that high school sports are a distraction in the classroom or even cause career ending injuries. There are
many different scenarios that prove that high school sports do the exact opposite of those. When it comes to high school sports, it keeps students fit,
boosts a student's academic performance, and enhances a student's self–esteem. High school sports are very beneficial and for anyone who is looking
to take on a new challenge to take on.
Sports weren't introduced until the late 1940's. High school sports were introduced after World War II to bring students together and have students
want to come to school ("Gerard"). They were introduced for life skills and communication. They were supposed to be taught at a young age.
("Friedman"). In 2013, approximately 7.7 million students played high school sports ("Gerard"). This was found to be the starting point for young
athletes.
When participation in a sport in high school, it may interfere with class work, meaning an athlete may have to leave class early in order to participate
in a game or tournament. With doing so, it is up to the student to get their work done. They have to make it up on their own time in order to make up
what they missed in class. This teaches students time management and motivates students to try their best in order to make up work they missed. All
coaches should take into consideration that if a student does not have the grades, then the athlete may not participate in competition or practice. Even
this rule applies to the team's best athlete, grade ineligibility applies to everyone. When it comes to high school, the sport itself generates motivation to
keep the student on top of things and wanting to thrive for greatness in academics and athletics as well ("Merkel,"). All students should know that
grades come before athletics. This will make student athletes aware of the minimum GPA that will be needed to be maintained in order to participate in
athletics ("The Benefits of Participating in Sports"). Consequently, it forces students to learn

Persuasive Essay On STEM Education
Everyone wants what is best for their children, right? If that is true, then schools need to start preparing their students for the challenges they will meet
in college and the skills to overcome them. This is best done through the presence of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in middle
and high schools. Through Wisconsin schools furthering their focus on STEM with extracurriculars, students will gain vital skills that are necessary
for human progression, problem–solving and time management skills that can be used in real life, and the students learn how they can apply what is
being taught in the classroom to real obstacles and challenges. It is clear that STEM is a rapidly growing and advancing field that is needed for our
human progression. There are so many different professions that fall under STEM education and many of them impact the world every day. According
to former President Barack Obama "[Science] is more than a school subject, or the periodic table, or the properties of waves. It is an approach to the
world, a critical way to understand and explore and engage with the world, and then have the capacity to change that world" (Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math). Here, former President Obama is talking about how important science is as more than just a school subject; science can be
taken out of school and used to impact many people and change the world. Some may say that there have been other fields in history that became very
popular but

Essay about Higher Education
Higher education is optional, but to enter a respectable career, one must continue their education in order to achieve his financial and/or personal goals.
Teenagers who attend college use their extended schooling to further obtain knowledge. The primary objective of higher education is to enhance one's
abilities for his future. A student can learn from school in numerous ways, but liberal education is not a way to attract students into further and higher
education. However, students can learn a lot more through experiences that have affected their personal lives. I agree with author Mike Rose's theory
that education needs are reached to obtain a higher academic level by teaching students information that can be related to their personal...show more

However, he has not thought about the students who want to attend college and quickly earn their degree so they can start their careers.
I disagree with Bloom because he encourages the idea of taking extra irrelevant classes to achieve the experience of education. It usually takes about
four years to earn a bachelors degree. There are many courses such as English, math, history, art, etc. that a student must go through before they get to
start on the classes that concentrate on their intended major. These basic courses are part of a program called general education. After completing
general education (which usually takes about two years), the students can then begin to study for their degree. Colleges should abandon the law of
students having to take general education courses because the courses are irrelevant to their field of study, unnecessary and a waste of time. Instead of
taking the extra courses, students can simply meet their needs of a degree in a shorter period of time. Also, Bloom not only that wants students to take
general education courses, he wants them to further their education by taking advanced irrelevant courses. Therefore, in their future, they would have
numerous opportunities for a better career. Because if a job is not right for the student, he would have other choices to obtain a new job.
Rose feels students should not learn from the canon books style. Students have an easier time learning when they relate to the

Is College education worth it? A lot of people go to college for a lot of reasons. Most people go for higher employment so they can get a good job,
which leans them toward more money, which is also why a lot of people go to college. Another reason is because they want to say they went to
college and have that experience. And those are all good reasons for going to college. The debate is still at large and many are fighting about it not
being as worth it as many have thought in the past. People see it as a waste of money as there are good paying jobs that just need a high school
education. College tuition has gone up and people are saying it is a scam, as the price of college tuition was less in the past. Being said that, it was the

They also seem to mature in college as they make more decisions. According to a Pew Research journal, "The survey also finds that the public sees
higher education as having two basic missions of similar importance. Some four–in–ten say the main purpose of college should be to help an individual
grow personally and intellectually, while nearly half say it should be to teach specific skills and knowledge that can be used in the workplace." So
money isn't the only reason people go to college. They grow in smarts and in peace of mind. "Also, most jobs that require a bachelor's, master's,
doctoral or professional degree tend to also provide more benefits. This can include health care, retirement investment, travel and other perks. These
types of benefits are rarely offered for high–school–level jobs. Part of the reason employment benefits are so important is because they offer stability
for your family, especially in the case of health care. They are called benefits, but in reality, they are a vital part of anyone's salary. In some cases, the
value of benefits even exceeds an employee's take–home pay. Families of college graduates are generally better off economically and socially. But it is
also more likely that the next generation of children will attend college. So you can look at it as an investment in the future of your family." (Benefits
of Earning a College Degree). So it can help in the future in so many

Argumentative Essay On School Funding
In the United States, public schools get their funding from their respective state. As a student, it can be seen as concerning when one compares how
much states spend on their schools. Many schools are inadequate in both an aspect of safety and effectiveness of the learning environment. As a result
of inadequate subsidy across America, schools resort to taking drastic measures. Not only are the unequal sources of subsidy a difficulty, but the
concept and execution of budget cuts also exacerbate the issue. In order to give every student in America equal opportunities for success, funding
should be controlled by the federal government with a policy that enforces equity rather than equality. This is also a viable option that could be carried

Cory Turner of National Public Radio, writer of Why America's Schools Have A Money Problem, has the answer; "...45 percent local money, 45
percent from the state and 10 percent federal...why is it that one Chicago–area district has $9,794 to spend on each of its students, while another, nearby
district has three times that? Two words: property tax," (Turner 2). The authors of Equity Is the Key to BetterSchool Funding, Marin Gjaja, J. Puckett,
and Matt Ryder, say, "Giving kids in high–poverty areas an equal opportunity to succeed requires spending more money on those students," suggesting
that in those low–income areas, local and state government regulations alone and predominately will not be beneficial (Gjaja, Puckett, and Ryder 1).
Property taxes when associated with funding for education are insufficient in low income areas, and in return are insufficient for the school. Leaving
local and state governments with the responsibility of fulfilling a majority of education costs is a concept we should correct. Turner also mentions that
one Arizona school has four–day weeks to save money from electricity bills, as a result of poor rates of property taxes. Budget cuts also contribute to
the impairment of districts with lower property taxes and lower income families, an implied point from Michael Leachman's article, Most States have
Cut School Funding, and Some

Argumentative Essay On School Shootings
There has been an average of one school shooting every week in America since the Sandy Hook shooting. On the fourteenth of December, 2012, in
Newtown, Connecticut, 20–year–old Adam Lanza not only killed his mother in her home, but also twenty children and six members of staff at the
Sandy Hook Elementary School. This was to be the third deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. The Huffington Post reports that as of 2014, there
have been over 200 school shootings. These have resulted in at least 94 deaths and over 156 serious and minor injuries. And, with an issue as emotive
and contentious as the murder of school children, the question has been frequently asked: why do school shootings happen? When there is a mass
killing at a school, it's...show more content...
As said by Justin Nutt, a social worker who has discussed this an online article: Bullying has been around ever since the first cave man decided he
was better than the second. Mental Illnesses affect millions every day, and yet millions of people don't attempt mass murder every day. Mary
Muscari is a forensic nurse at Binghamton University who has researched mass killers, and she has said that "There are certainly a lot of people
who have a lot of things wrong, and they're not committing mass murders. Even when you look at mental illnesses, most people with mental
illnesses are not violent." So how could someone commit a mass shooting? Many psychologists have given their own thoughts as to why someone
would fulfil such a deadly personal mission. For the most part, it would appear that many school shooters do what they do for their moment in the
spotlight. In this day and age of modern technology, there's no doubt the killer's face will soon be on everybody's social media feeds and on the
front of newspapers all over the globe. Others, however, may commit a mass shooting to make themselves seem powerful. This is common when the
shooter has been a victim of bullying or abuse, as being the one with control over everybody else gives them a certain rush of adrenaline and feeling
of dominance they may have never had had before. But sometimes, it seems, they are just lacking a moral compass. On September 11, 2014, the 'New

Argumentative Essay On Academic Competition
Competition. This word varies in connotation. To some, it symbolizes joy, triumph, and self–satisfaction, while for others the word represents
worthlessness and failure. Since an early age, kids are taught about competition through games and sports. Kids develop skills like sportsmanship,
integrity and fair play. Competition is like water in a sieve. To argue that competition does not exist is like saying that water is not leaking from a
sieve when only one hole is clogged. Competition is everywhere. In today's society, there has been a lot of controversy over academic competition in
school. Many see academic competition has a looming rain cloud that hangs over the students who excel differently, and cannot find success in the
standard school system. They see competition as emphasis on arbitrary performance. Yet, competition is not all that bad. Competition is what helps us
learn and grow as people. If students did not know the difference between a win or lose, then how would they know where to improve? Academic
competition gets a negative connotation, but in reality, it has an overall positive impact.
In a recent article, it was discussed how students are experiencing an overwhelming amount of stress from competition. Students, tired and sleep
deprived, dread school not because of the workload, but because of the academic competition. "While I understand that competition is an important
motivator to many students, I believe that our mental wellness would be significantly

Persuasive Essay On Charter Schools
Open to all children, free of tuition, and does not have special entrance requirements, charter schools believe that children should have the opportunity
to achieve at a high level. When creating charter schools, they focused on a desire to create greater flexibility for innovation within public education. It
was hoped that successful innovations could be adapted to benefit public education more broadly. (NEA, 2017). Charter schools also, foster partnership
between parents, teachers, and students in hopes of creating an environment in which parents can be more involved, teachers are allowed to innovate,
and students are provided with structure they need to learn.
Unlike public schools, charter schools believe that smaller class sizes are important to student learning. According to Homeschooling "Pros and Cons of
Charter Schools" article, "Rather than having a student attend a public school where students will be one among thirty to thirty–five other pupils,
charter school students will be one of twelve, sometimes fifteen other students" (2017). In a classroom with many students, a teacher may not have the
ability to spend sufficient quality time one–on–one with every student . This may result in teachers having more of a challenge in motivating each
student and encouraging students individually. The teacher may not have the time to recognize each student's particular challenges, passions, and
talents (Homeschooling, 2017 ). In addition, according to EF Academy's "10

Argumentative Essay About Drug Abuse
Drug abuse is bad because it spoils people's lives, increases drug access, and has serious consequences and effects on places the drugs are used. There
are drugs everywhere they go, there is not one single place, that anyone could go to and there is not many person who is not using drugs or had drugs
in their system. Teens between the age of fifteen to eighteen have problems with drug addiction; teens who start to use drugs at a young age tend to
have a problem with them once they get older. Eighty percent of the teens who use drugs do not get to graduate high school. The prevalence of drug use
has gone up in the past years due to the people that keep consuming them. The United States has many programs to help kids with drug abuse
because they want the best for them. Most programs may work, maybe not forever, but temporarily and at least many teenagers have stopped doing
drugs and have rehabilitated themselves. Many teens tend to start drugs because maybe someone in their family consumes them or the friends they
have around them do. Many times the people they are surrounded with tend to have a big affect on what they do. Most teenagers go to drugs to
help them forget the problems that they have at home. Problems at home can include their parents fighting, arguing, and eventually splitting up and
sometimes intimacy is not the only problem or the cause of that. Sometimes problems with money can split people up. Drugs cannot fix any
problems going on, it only makes people feel better for a few hours and after drugs, wear off it can cause a person to be even more depressed than
before. Many high school students use drugs for various reasons. Reasons that high schoolers use drugs are mainly pointless because they mostly
want to fit in with the "cool kids" and that makes some kids make the wrong choices so that they are not humiliated by the others. In recent years,
about 30 percent of seniors in high schools use drugs and about 65 percent of kids in high school that are sophomores use drugs (Cole 54).
There are many ways to get a hold of drugs; some ways are easy and some ways are hard. Easy ways to get a hold of drugs are if the drug she want to
consume is legal. Some states that have

Argumentative Essay: Does School Start Too Early?
Madeline Crouch

Does School start too early?
Many students can admit that they have fallen asleep at least once during a class. It is not the student's fault as to why they fall asleep in class, it is the
early school start times that causes students to fall asleep on their desks during class. Recent studies have shown that more than half of students get less
than eight hours of sleep which is the recommended amount of sleep. School start times contribute to sleep deprivation, car crashes, and lower test
results and overall grades.
Studies have shown that many students blame their sleep deprivation on the early school start times, they are not wrong. Students are supposed to
receive at least 8 hours of sleep each night; however, most teens only average around seven or less hours of sleep as seen in the graph below from
(wake up calls)....show more content...
School start times have a great effect on student sleep deprivation because the early times throw off the student's circadian clock also known as the
internal body rhythm. The circadian clock secretes a hormone called melatonin that helps teens sleep (Ornes). Melatonin is active until approximately
8:30am where as many school start earlier than that at around 7:15am.
School start times not only impact a student's sleep cycle, but they also impact the number of early morning car accidents. Students who are sleep
deprived that drive to school face a huge risk of getting into a car crash that early in the morning. Studies show that "when high schools in Fayette
County, Kentucky, changed their start times from 7:30a.m. to 8:30a.m., teen car crash rates dropped by more than sixteen percent." (Discovery).
Moving start times back in other counties and states will decrease the numbers of teen car

Private Schools vs. Public Schools Essay
Parents often wonder how to start off their children's education. Depending on ones religion or beliefs a private or public school is a choice most
parents face. Of course, each school offers it's own pros and con's the choice is simple. Public schools offer the best well rounding of a student.
While being enrolled in a public school, students are faced with real outside world problems, are with a different blend of students each year, and are

These classes allow students to pursue a career from the knowledge they have obtained. For example, one might take a business class, which could
lead to a career in the business industry. On the other hand, in Private schools they only provide the necessary classes required by the state. In some
intermediate private schools, Home Economics and Shop classes Brady 2 aren't even offered.
Unlike Public schools these classes have been offered since fifth or sixth grade and up. The uniforms in private schools ones child will be wearing
would not allow the child to show character in his self. Uniforms may make life easier in the long run, but think of how many different ways in style
people express themselves. There's skater, prep, sporty, gothic, hippie, or whatever is convertible. In public schools, ones child has many different
ways to fit in or dress how they feel is convertible to them. The sports in private schools aren't that excelled as ones in public schools.
Like in private intermediate schools there are not a variety of sports. Public schools offer sports as young as their primary schools. Sports in Public
schools seem to be widely known and are more funded. The money that Public schools receive go towards uniforms, equipment, and top of the line

Sports Should Be Mandatory Essay

  • 1. Sports Should Be Mandatory Essay Persuasive essay Sports mandatory in school 3/19/2012 Amanpreet S. Buttar | There are several sports in the world. Many people play and watch sports. In most of the schools there are sports teams. Most schools in Ontario have sport teams but it should be mandatory for a student to play at least one sport every school year. It should be mandatory to play sports because students will get involved, sports build teamwork skills, and the students will be healthier and more active. Firstly, Students will get involved in the school. This will allow them to make new friends and try out different activities. Should students get involved in? Is it important to get involved? Yes students should get involved in sports because they make...show more content... Team work is the process of working collaboratively with a group of people in order to achieve a goal. Teamwork is often a crucial part of a business, as it is often necessary for colleagues to work well together, trying their best in any circumstance. Teamwork means that people will try to cooperate, using their individual skills and providing constructive feedback, despite any personal conflict between individuals. It is important to build teamwork skills because future on in life when a student applies for a job he will have to work with other employees to get the job done. A professional basketball player once said "talent wins games, but team work and intelligence wins championships." If schools make sports mandatory it will teach so many students how to work as a team and get their task done. There are also some negatives about teamwork. The negative think is that some people don't want to work with others because they don't want the students that don't try to steal all their credit and get rewarded. But if students play sports they will be able to manage that and actually know how to deal with it. In sports everyone learns how to work as a team and but also alone. In most sports there are positions that you have to play, for example in basketball there is post who gets the rebounds, also the wings one wing usually drives it in and does lay ups, while the other wing usually is good at three pointer shots, and lastly there is the point guard who runs all the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Too Much Pressure On High School Students All parents want to see their kids succeed in school. However, by the time a student graduates they will then feel a sudden urge of relief after have encountered a significant amount of pressure throughout their high school years. The pressure is not only received by the school, but by society and the parents as well. Several students have experienced staying up long nights to finish homework, a loss of interest in a hobby, or an academic burnout at one point. It is common sense for one to say that school is not easy. Between trying to manage homework from all of their classes, studying for multiple different tests at once, and trying to maintain a decent social life, school can become very stressful for a young person. Too much pressure should not be put on high school students because it can lead to academic failure, truancy, and depression. Putting too much pressure on high school students can lead to academic failure. A lot of the time when a child is known for receiving good grades they are put on a pedestal by their parents and their school. The parents begin to expect for their child to succeed, but when they do not, it may lead to an uproar within the household. The pressure on the child is severe, and not enough support is given. After researching parental involvement towards high school students, it has been said that "Parents are most likely to attend school meetings and events or to volunteer in their child's school when their children are in primary school Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 4. Should High School Students be Required to Take a Foreign Language? In the past high school students were not given the option to take a foreign language, the school did not even have a foreign language class that could be taken. In today's world high school students are making the decision of taking a foreign language. Taking a foreign language in high school is an option and is not forced in many states, however, in many states colleges require a foreign language to graduate. So, what are high school students to do? Does taking a language in high school relate to today's world? High school students should be required to take a foreign language for college and for future job opportunities. A foreign language is required for many colleges. Most colleges in Iowa, along with many more states, all across America, require that college students have at least two years of a foreign language before they graduate, so if students do not take a foreign language in high school they will have to take it in college. According to the 2017 College Board for the United States of America, many colleges require a minimum of two years of study of a single foreign language; also many colleges see that a foreign language shows that the students is stretching beyond the basics of high school ("High School Classes Colleges Look For"). With the requirement to have a foreign language both required by the state and by the college it is getting harder and harder for college students not to have a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Argumentative Essay On School Start Time Every morning students in the United States feel the effects the early start time many schools have implemented. These students are lethargic and inattentive, due to the lack of sleep they are getting every night. Typically, adults see these characteristics as the result of teenagers staying up late watching Netflix or using their cell phones. Many reputable organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics, have researched this problem and found that teenagers are lacking in sleep due to biological and physiological changes that are occurring within their brains. These shifts cause students to be more inattentive and reckless, resulting in lower grades, tardiness, and higher rates of car...show more content... By requiring teenagers to wake up early, school officials are basically neglecting the health of their student bodies in favor of making their lives simpler. Despite the overwhelming evidence given by current research, many people refuse to change school start times because of the lack of noticeable impact some schools had or the impact it had on some people's schedules. Pannoni cites a statement by the Iowa City Community School District which found that "the later start time . . . [did] not reduce the number of tardy students by any appreciable amount." The principal of Ballard High School agreed by saying that he "would be surprised to see large improvements in either attendance or grade data compared with past years" (Pannoni). Many schools refused to change because of how the later start and dismissal times would affect extracurricular activities and students with jobs. This change would also interfere with bus schedules and childcare habits. However, these seem like small problems that can be overcome when the results are that "later school start times were associated with students sleeping longer at night, less tardiness, having higher test scores, being less depressed, using less caffeine and other drugs, . . . and experiencing fewer morning car crashes" (Fenwick). The most compelling evidence that shows changing school start Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Argumentative Essay On Higher Education The United States of America has portrayed itself by being the "land of opportunities" where everyone can "achieve success" by being determined, hard working and having the courage to grasp the rudder of their lives and lead themselves through the right path. In this nation, the American Dream is viewed in many different ways depending on individual's culture and background. The higher education for Latino immigrants has been a concern to many people, especially those that want to achieve it. While some individuals believe that the DREAM act will result in a college graduate generation of hard working individuals who will strengthen the economy, others say they do not deserve it or that it will only encourage continued illegal immigration. ...show more content... This act would provide a pathway of legal status and "would allow residency requirements for in–state tuition" (Erisman 20). The public and political officials have a very divided opinion on this dispute. Opponents to this act, believe that giving these young adults legal residence and opening better opportunities for them will only be an incentive to break the law and will encourage continued immigration. Advocates on the other hand, believe that these students who have a desire for success have much to offer to the future of America. Erisman, claims that that students [should not] "only be offered in–state tuition but also financial aid from the state and government" (Erisman 20), since some of these undocumented students come from low–income families and they may find it very difficult to pay for college even with the benefit of in–state tuition. The Latino student immigrants who participated in Contreras study reflect the claims that Erisman conveys. They were all highly "concerned with financing college and the need for ongoing support to successfully persist" (Contreras 620). Overall the students interview in this study all share the same ideal. They believe that by receiving financial assistance, the government will only be investing in future professional Latino leaders thus building a stronger socio–economic nation for the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Argumentative Essay On High School Sports Research Essay Almost all student athletes get butterflies before that Friday night football game, before the fans get to watch them compete, or even the to get the ability to practice. Many argue that high school sports are a distraction in the classroom or even cause career ending injuries. There are many different scenarios that prove that high school sports do the exact opposite of those. When it comes to high school sports, it keeps students fit, boosts a student's academic performance, and enhances a student's self–esteem. High school sports are very beneficial and for anyone who is looking to take on a new challenge to take on. Sports weren't introduced until the late 1940's. High school sports were introduced after World War II to bring students together and have students want to come to school ("Gerard"). They were introduced for life skills and communication. They were supposed to be taught at a young age. ("Friedman"). In 2013, approximately 7.7 million students played high school sports ("Gerard"). This was found to be the starting point for young athletes. When participation in a sport in high school, it may interfere with class work, meaning an athlete may have to leave class early in order to participate in a game or tournament. With doing so, it is up to the student to get their work done. They have to make it up on their own time in order to make up what they missed in class. This teaches students time management and motivates students to try their best in order to make up work they missed. All coaches should take into consideration that if a student does not have the grades, then the athlete may not participate in competition or practice. Even this rule applies to the team's best athlete, grade ineligibility applies to everyone. When it comes to high school, the sport itself generates motivation to keep the student on top of things and wanting to thrive for greatness in academics and athletics as well ("Merkel,"). All students should know that grades come before athletics. This will make student athletes aware of the minimum GPA that will be needed to be maintained in order to participate in athletics ("The Benefits of Participating in Sports"). Consequently, it forces students to learn Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Persuasive Essay On STEM Education Everyone wants what is best for their children, right? If that is true, then schools need to start preparing their students for the challenges they will meet in college and the skills to overcome them. This is best done through the presence of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in middle and high schools. Through Wisconsin schools furthering their focus on STEM with extracurriculars, students will gain vital skills that are necessary for human progression, problem–solving and time management skills that can be used in real life, and the students learn how they can apply what is being taught in the classroom to real obstacles and challenges. It is clear that STEM is a rapidly growing and advancing field that is needed for our human progression. There are so many different professions that fall under STEM education and many of them impact the world every day. According to former President Barack Obama "[Science] is more than a school subject, or the periodic table, or the properties of waves. It is an approach to the world, a critical way to understand and explore and engage with the world, and then have the capacity to change that world" (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Here, former President Obama is talking about how important science is as more than just a school subject; science can be taken out of school and used to impact many people and change the world. Some may say that there have been other fields in history that became very popular but Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay about Higher Education Higher education is optional, but to enter a respectable career, one must continue their education in order to achieve his financial and/or personal goals. Teenagers who attend college use their extended schooling to further obtain knowledge. The primary objective of higher education is to enhance one's abilities for his future. A student can learn from school in numerous ways, but liberal education is not a way to attract students into further and higher education. However, students can learn a lot more through experiences that have affected their personal lives. I agree with author Mike Rose's theory that education needs are reached to obtain a higher academic level by teaching students information that can be related to their personal...show more content... However, he has not thought about the students who want to attend college and quickly earn their degree so they can start their careers. I disagree with Bloom because he encourages the idea of taking extra irrelevant classes to achieve the experience of education. It usually takes about four years to earn a bachelors degree. There are many courses such as English, math, history, art, etc. that a student must go through before they get to start on the classes that concentrate on their intended major. These basic courses are part of a program called general education. After completing general education (which usually takes about two years), the students can then begin to study for their degree. Colleges should abandon the law of students having to take general education courses because the courses are irrelevant to their field of study, unnecessary and a waste of time. Instead of taking the extra courses, students can simply meet their needs of a degree in a shorter period of time. Also, Bloom not only that wants students to take general education courses, he wants them to further their education by taking advanced irrelevant courses. Therefore, in their future, they would have numerous opportunities for a better career. Because if a job is not right for the student, he would have other choices to obtain a new job. Rose feels students should not learn from the canon books style. Students have an easier time learning when they relate to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Is College education worth it? A lot of people go to college for a lot of reasons. Most people go for higher employment so they can get a good job, which leans them toward more money, which is also why a lot of people go to college. Another reason is because they want to say they went to college and have that experience. And those are all good reasons for going to college. The debate is still at large and many are fighting about it not being as worth it as many have thought in the past. People see it as a waste of money as there are good paying jobs that just need a high school education. College tuition has gone up and people are saying it is a scam, as the price of college tuition was less in the past. Being said that, it was the past but...show more content... They also seem to mature in college as they make more decisions. According to a Pew Research journal, "The survey also finds that the public sees higher education as having two basic missions of similar importance. Some four–in–ten say the main purpose of college should be to help an individual grow personally and intellectually, while nearly half say it should be to teach specific skills and knowledge that can be used in the workplace." So money isn't the only reason people go to college. They grow in smarts and in peace of mind. "Also, most jobs that require a bachelor's, master's, doctoral or professional degree tend to also provide more benefits. This can include health care, retirement investment, travel and other perks. These types of benefits are rarely offered for high–school–level jobs. Part of the reason employment benefits are so important is because they offer stability for your family, especially in the case of health care. They are called benefits, but in reality, they are a vital part of anyone's salary. In some cases, the value of benefits even exceeds an employee's take–home pay. Families of college graduates are generally better off economically and socially. But it is also more likely that the next generation of children will attend college. So you can look at it as an investment in the future of your family." (Benefits of Earning a College Degree). So it can help in the future in so many Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Argumentative Essay On School Funding In the United States, public schools get their funding from their respective state. As a student, it can be seen as concerning when one compares how much states spend on their schools. Many schools are inadequate in both an aspect of safety and effectiveness of the learning environment. As a result of inadequate subsidy across America, schools resort to taking drastic measures. Not only are the unequal sources of subsidy a difficulty, but the concept and execution of budget cuts also exacerbate the issue. In order to give every student in America equal opportunities for success, funding should be controlled by the federal government with a policy that enforces equity rather than equality. This is also a viable option that could be carried ...show more content... Cory Turner of National Public Radio, writer of Why America's Schools Have A Money Problem, has the answer; "...45 percent local money, 45 percent from the state and 10 percent federal...why is it that one Chicago–area district has $9,794 to spend on each of its students, while another, nearby district has three times that? Two words: property tax," (Turner 2). The authors of Equity Is the Key to BetterSchool Funding, Marin Gjaja, J. Puckett, and Matt Ryder, say, "Giving kids in high–poverty areas an equal opportunity to succeed requires spending more money on those students," suggesting that in those low–income areas, local and state government regulations alone and predominately will not be beneficial (Gjaja, Puckett, and Ryder 1). Property taxes when associated with funding for education are insufficient in low income areas, and in return are insufficient for the school. Leaving local and state governments with the responsibility of fulfilling a majority of education costs is a concept we should correct. Turner also mentions that one Arizona school has four–day weeks to save money from electricity bills, as a result of poor rates of property taxes. Budget cuts also contribute to the impairment of districts with lower property taxes and lower income families, an implied point from Michael Leachman's article, Most States have Cut School Funding, and Some Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 13. Argumentative Essay On School Shootings There has been an average of one school shooting every week in America since the Sandy Hook shooting. On the fourteenth of December, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut, 20–year–old Adam Lanza not only killed his mother in her home, but also twenty children and six members of staff at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. This was to be the third deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. The Huffington Post reports that as of 2014, there have been over 200 school shootings. These have resulted in at least 94 deaths and over 156 serious and minor injuries. And, with an issue as emotive and contentious as the murder of school children, the question has been frequently asked: why do school shootings happen? When there is a mass killing at a school, it's...show more content... As said by Justin Nutt, a social worker who has discussed this an online article: Bullying has been around ever since the first cave man decided he was better than the second. Mental Illnesses affect millions every day, and yet millions of people don't attempt mass murder every day. Mary Muscari is a forensic nurse at Binghamton University who has researched mass killers, and she has said that "There are certainly a lot of people who have a lot of things wrong, and they're not committing mass murders. Even when you look at mental illnesses, most people with mental illnesses are not violent." So how could someone commit a mass shooting? Many psychologists have given their own thoughts as to why someone would fulfil such a deadly personal mission. For the most part, it would appear that many school shooters do what they do for their moment in the spotlight. In this day and age of modern technology, there's no doubt the killer's face will soon be on everybody's social media feeds and on the front of newspapers all over the globe. Others, however, may commit a mass shooting to make themselves seem powerful. This is common when the shooter has been a victim of bullying or abuse, as being the one with control over everybody else gives them a certain rush of adrenaline and feeling of dominance they may have never had had before. But sometimes, it seems, they are just lacking a moral compass. On September 11, 2014, the 'New York Daily News' published an Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Argumentative Essay On Academic Competition Competition. This word varies in connotation. To some, it symbolizes joy, triumph, and self–satisfaction, while for others the word represents worthlessness and failure. Since an early age, kids are taught about competition through games and sports. Kids develop skills like sportsmanship, integrity and fair play. Competition is like water in a sieve. To argue that competition does not exist is like saying that water is not leaking from a sieve when only one hole is clogged. Competition is everywhere. In today's society, there has been a lot of controversy over academic competition in school. Many see academic competition has a looming rain cloud that hangs over the students who excel differently, and cannot find success in the standard school system. They see competition as emphasis on arbitrary performance. Yet, competition is not all that bad. Competition is what helps us learn and grow as people. If students did not know the difference between a win or lose, then how would they know where to improve? Academic competition gets a negative connotation, but in reality, it has an overall positive impact. In a recent article, it was discussed how students are experiencing an overwhelming amount of stress from competition. Students, tired and sleep deprived, dread school not because of the workload, but because of the academic competition. "While I understand that competition is an important motivator to many students, I believe that our mental wellness would be significantly Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Persuasive Essay On Charter Schools Open to all children, free of tuition, and does not have special entrance requirements, charter schools believe that children should have the opportunity to achieve at a high level. When creating charter schools, they focused on a desire to create greater flexibility for innovation within public education. It was hoped that successful innovations could be adapted to benefit public education more broadly. (NEA, 2017). Charter schools also, foster partnership between parents, teachers, and students in hopes of creating an environment in which parents can be more involved, teachers are allowed to innovate, and students are provided with structure they need to learn. Unlike public schools, charter schools believe that smaller class sizes are important to student learning. According to Homeschooling "Pros and Cons of Charter Schools" article, "Rather than having a student attend a public school where students will be one among thirty to thirty–five other pupils, charter school students will be one of twelve, sometimes fifteen other students" (2017). In a classroom with many students, a teacher may not have the ability to spend sufficient quality time one–on–one with every student . This may result in teachers having more of a challenge in motivating each student and encouraging students individually. The teacher may not have the time to recognize each student's particular challenges, passions, and talents (Homeschooling, 2017 ). In addition, according to EF Academy's "10 Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Argumentative Essay About Drug Abuse Drug abuse is bad because it spoils people's lives, increases drug access, and has serious consequences and effects on places the drugs are used. There are drugs everywhere they go, there is not one single place, that anyone could go to and there is not many person who is not using drugs or had drugs in their system. Teens between the age of fifteen to eighteen have problems with drug addiction; teens who start to use drugs at a young age tend to have a problem with them once they get older. Eighty percent of the teens who use drugs do not get to graduate high school. The prevalence of drug use has gone up in the past years due to the people that keep consuming them. The United States has many programs to help kids with drug abuse because they want the best for them. Most programs may work, maybe not forever, but temporarily and at least many teenagers have stopped doing drugs and have rehabilitated themselves. Many teens tend to start drugs because maybe someone in their family consumes them or the friends they have around them do. Many times the people they are surrounded with tend to have a big affect on what they do. Most teenagers go to drugs to help them forget the problems that they have at home. Problems at home can include their parents fighting, arguing, and eventually splitting up and sometimes intimacy is not the only problem or the cause of that. Sometimes problems with money can split people up. Drugs cannot fix any problems going on, it only makes people feel better for a few hours and after drugs, wear off it can cause a person to be even more depressed than before. Many high school students use drugs for various reasons. Reasons that high schoolers use drugs are mainly pointless because they mostly want to fit in with the "cool kids" and that makes some kids make the wrong choices so that they are not humiliated by the others. In recent years, about 30 percent of seniors in high schools use drugs and about 65 percent of kids in high school that are sophomores use drugs (Cole 54). There are many ways to get a hold of drugs; some ways are easy and some ways are hard. Easy ways to get a hold of drugs are if the drug she want to consume is legal. • 17. Argumentative Essay: Does School Start Too Early? Madeline Crouch English 3 4 August 2015 Does School start too early? Many students can admit that they have fallen asleep at least once during a class. It is not the student's fault as to why they fall asleep in class, it is the early school start times that causes students to fall asleep on their desks during class. Recent studies have shown that more than half of students get less than eight hours of sleep which is the recommended amount of sleep. School start times contribute to sleep deprivation, car crashes, and lower test results and overall grades. Studies have shown that many students blame their sleep deprivation on the early school start times, they are not wrong. Students are supposed to receive at least 8 hours of sleep each night; however, most teens only average around seven or less hours of sleep as seen in the graph below from (wake up calls)....show more content... School start times have a great effect on student sleep deprivation because the early times throw off the student's circadian clock also known as the internal body rhythm. The circadian clock secretes a hormone called melatonin that helps teens sleep (Ornes). Melatonin is active until approximately 8:30am where as many school start earlier than that at around 7:15am. School start times not only impact a student's sleep cycle, but they also impact the number of early morning car accidents. Students who are sleep deprived that drive to school face a huge risk of getting into a car crash that early in the morning. Studies show that "when high schools in Fayette County, Kentucky, changed their start times from 7:30a.m. to 8:30a.m., teen car crash rates dropped by more than sixteen percent." (Discovery). Moving start times back in other counties and states will decrease the numbers of teen car Get more content on HelpWriting.net
