- Hello everyone this is ########## and my presentation in on The Negative Impact Of Hollywood movies. I will begin with a short intro.
- A movie aka cinema films forms the bedrock of entertainment industry. It is something that people have enjoyed since the 1890's. It is a beautiful work of visual art, a combination of sounds, editing and the style of acting. References :1. The concept of the motion picture was first introduced to a mass audience through Thomas Edison’s kinetoscope in 1891. However, it wasn’t until the Lumière brothers released the cinématographe in 1895 that motion pictures were projected for audience viewing. 2. In the United States, film established itself as a popular form of entertainment with the nickelodeon theater in the 1910s.
- And here are some obvious reasons why we watch movies. For entertainment, to pass time, to connect, relax, realize fantasy, it is also a social experience.
- The movie industry has something for everybody. There is something for people of different age groups, for people for with different moods people of different country, cultures, for people who belong to different languages And this brings us closer to our topic. You see language is actually the most basic criterion for classifying movies. For example we have Bollywood for Hindi, Tollywood Telegu, and then there is Hollywood for English. For reference Tollywoods (Telugu), Kollywood (Tamil ), Sandalwood (Kannada) Pollywood (Punjabi , Mollywoods (Malayalam & Marathi), Lollywood (Pakistani), Kariwood (Pakistani films from Karachi). The Bangladeshi film industry is called Dhaliwood. The Sri Lankan Follywood, Nepali is Kollywood.
- Hollywood is one of the most influential and dominant of all "woods". Hollywood movies include different languages, cultures, backgrounds, well... Almost everything that you can think of. Just like the movie industry as a whole Hollywood has something for everybody and as I said there is something for everybody well this is where a basic problem lies because we can't be certain that everyone is watching what they're supposed to watch, there's no perfect restriction on what a person/child can watch. Also being the dominant of all there other issues besides who's watching what. References data on how is it big like in terms of expenditure or resources or popularity.
- Let us look at how Hollywood affects other cultures. Hollwood movies are not only seen by Americans but a much bigger mass of people around the world and therefore the American culture portrayed in the movies becomes more relevant to people as they tend to watch more of these movies. Why do more people tend to watch more of these movies?? The American film firms dominate the majority of market share in the world of film industry and so obviously Hollywood has more to spend on their movies and publizing this is one way they reach more people and also Hollywood being a massive universe it is easier for Hollywood to scoop out people from different industries and therefore these movies become more relevant to people of that particular industry. Culture and fashion Hollywood show a considerable impact on the culture and fashion around the world. They form the means to promote social culture, education, religion, and language. Hollywood movies also promote their fashion as more superior and more comfort oriented. Often the American life is shown as easy going and no strings attached manner. Actors and actresses are shown leading an extremely lavish lifestyle which might invoke an inferior feeling regarding lifestyle amongst the viewers of different background.
- Affect on other industries We can take the case of Bollywood here. Bollywood movie mainly focuses on the Indian traditional songs and dance. It focused on a common feeling where people can connect and the story lines are usually bound to good and evil or light hearted comedy. But due to Hollywood's effect, the industry began to touch more on scenes and story lines that are not common and also threaten the values and culture of the Indian people. Coming to food. Hollywood movies have played a subtle yet very influential role in food habits around the planet. The most focused point is comfort and taste above all the important factors such as health, pollution, harm. The movies often make us feel that home cooking is a thing of past and going to restaurant and ordering a pizza and a coke is more convenient, modern and also fashionable.
- Ever since movies have become more accessible there is less control what everyone is watching. Children are the most vulnerable to certain elements in movies. One really common problem in Hollywood movies is the natural use of foul language or rather foul words even for humor in movies and this is picked up very fast by the children and it later becomes an issue. English movies show drinking and smoking in a very casual normal manner which makes the youth feel that well... drinking and smoking is not a big deal and what starts as fun may end up in a completely different situation.
- Now we have a little bit of statistics --- A 2013 report from the American Academy of Pediatrics found that violence in films has more than doubled since 1950, and gun violence in PG-13-rated films has more than tripled since 1985. If smoking and drinking seems fun to teens then fighting and shooting is more fun for the junior population the children. The reason I said crap in the title is not exactly because of guns and fight Even animated movies contain scenes related to love making & getting stoned where the children don't really need to know about them at that age or also even if it is ok with the western parents it often causes a cringy situation in most families not leading a western life. some movies makes disrespecting or having a rebellious nature look cool thus prompting them to adopt such actions. And here too children may feel inferior because of the lifestyle of the American it maybe due to the lower school time or the provision of junk food in their meals.
- Now of course there are a lot of negative effects to Hollywood movies but let us look at the other side. Hollywood movies despite influencing the world and passing on terrible ideas there are films that teach beautiful lesson of teamwork(such as shaolin soccer, Apollo 13), perseverance, grit(Joy, The pursuit of happiness, spirited away). They also integrate many cultures into their movies adding beauty and authenticity (coco, Kungfu yoga). Some movies are really very informative and invoke ones imagination about reality, the present and the future (Matrix, I robot, Tomorrowland).
