2. Definition
Aminoglycoside is a medicinal and
bacteriological category of traditional gram
negative bacterial therapeutic agents that
inhibit protein synthesis.

Streptomycin
Gentamicin

It acts on ribosome gram negative bacteria
and inhibit protein synthesis

Intravenously
Intramuscularly

10. INDICATION
Gram negative bacteria
Complicated urinary tract infections
Complicated skin and soft tissue infections
Intra abdominal infections
Against tuberculosis
Severe pelvic inflammatory disease

11. CONTRAINDICATION
It is contraindicated in patients with
mitrochondrial disease as they may result in
impaired mtDNA translation which can lead to
Irreversible hearing loss
Tinnitus
Cardiac toxicity
Renal toxicity

Inner ear toxicity
Vestibular damage
