Dear Enny,
Thank you for your letter of 15 May. Sorry I didn’t reply your
letter sooner. I’ve been very busy lately.
Every school holiday I have to visit my grandmother in
Pakujati, a village at the foot of Mount Slamet in Central Java.
Sometimes I go there with my parents. Last holiday we visited
them again. We went there by train. Let me tell you something
about it.
The landscape looks beautiful. The terraces of large paddy
fields with their colorful scarecrows and tall bamboo trees at
certain corner seem magnificent. It is different from our
crowded city, isn’t it? The people, most of them are farmers,
are very kind. They spend most of their time in the paddy
fields. They really like to work hard.
To me, going to Pakujati is interesting. Don’t you want to join
me one day? I hope you will.
Warmly yours,
The Greenpeace Team
210 Broadway-New York
U.S.A.
I write this letter to inform you and need your attention about the destruction
of our environment.
The fire and the cutting down of our forest has been very bad nowadays. It’s
caused by the irresponsible people who want to get profit from it. Moreover,
some species of animals are living in danger because of their habitat
destroyed and also the hunting still happens continuously.
The orangutans, Sumatra tiger and some species of birds become smaller
and smaller now.
I hope that your tem are able to take an action to stop their activities.
Because I believe that you will give much attention and protection to the
existence of the environment.
Sincerely,
Lala

Dear Betty,
I’m waiting to you concerning of my last day in Jogja. I just
got back from Borobudur with my family, the wonderful
temple I’ve ever seen. The weather is fine. We are now
staying in a hotel. It’s not far from Malioboro. We are treated
well here. It has many excellent staffs who serve the
customers. We plan to go around Malioboro after the
children take a short nap. We want to enjoy having “lesehan”
there. It is a kind of a restaurant but we sit on the ground.
Many kinds of local handicraft are sold along Malioboro
street. Both domestic and foreign tourist are interested in
them. I want to buy some as souvenirs.
Don’t worry, I’ll also buy you the most interesting one.

Dear sir,
I have to travel every day from the bus stop near the City Hall to the port.
Two buses travel along this route; the number 2 and the number 11.
However by the time the number 11 bus reaches the City Hall, it is
always full, so I use the number 2 which sometimes has empty seats on
it.
The time table states that there are buses from the station to the port
every ten minutes. If this is so why do I have to wait half an hour for a
bus?
The regulations state that no bus may carry more than 40 seated
passengers and 20 standing passengers. Yesterday I was the first to ger
off the bus when it reached the port, I counted the other passengers as
they got off. There were 129 of them.
Clearlly printed on the back of every bus a sign that says: maximum
speed 50 m.p.h on Saturday a number 2 bus travelled from the City Hall
to the Hero Monument in 10 minutes. The distance is 12 miles. The bus
must have speeded at speed at least 80 m.p.h!
It is clear that our bus companies have no respect for the regulations or
passengers.

Dear Mellyani,
On my last school holiday, my classmates and I went to Borobudur. The Borobudur
temple is really magnficent. The hugeness of the temple really impressed me. How
could our ancestors build such a big temple? It was amazing.
In the temple, we went upstairs step by step. Walking around the temple, we saw
many reliefs on the temple walls. Some foreigners seemed interested in them. I
overheard their conversation with the guide. Actually the rellif tells a story.
It was really a nice experience!
I hope you can go there someday.

Dear Putri,
Putri, I’m so glad knowing that you and your family will come here next holiday.
We haven’t met each other for a long time. I miss you so much. If ou come
here, I will show a new park in my town. It is a nice place.
You said you and your family would go by train. However, I don’t know when
you will come here exactly. Please tell me the time, so I can pick you up at the
railway station.
Okay, that’s all for you now. Please reply soon. My love to auntie, uncle and
Raka.

Dear Fathoni,
We’re spending a week at a resort on the coast. There are
lots of plastic donkeys and silly hats in the shops. It’s really
a touristy place. I think it’s a horrible place.
I rode a bike on Monday, but I fell off and hurt my leg. I
wanted to try waterskiing or windsurfing, but I couldn’t.
Yesterday, Mum and Dad just lay on the beach sunbathing
all morning. Then we had a picnic, but it was too hot and
there were lots of files. I wanted to go on a boat trip in the
afternoon, but we went sightseeing instead. They took lots
of photos, but I thought it was really boring. Even the
weather’s boring: it’s just sunny the whole time.
I can’t wait to pack my bag and go home.

Dear Raflli,
Tiara and I will have a semester break next week. We plan to go to
Bali. Because our holiday is very short, we will stay there from 14
June until 17 June 2007
By the way, can you help me? I want you to pick us up at Ngurah Rai
Airport. We will leave for Bali on Thursday at 07:00 a.m. in the first
flight from Juanda Airport. It will take us one hours to reach Bali. I
hope you will be on time. I will call you then.
Well, I must finish now because I have to prepare for my test
tomorrow. Okay, see you there.

Dear Sarah,
What is it like there? Still snowy? It’s still raining here, but the weather is
still hot, just as hot as when you came here to join the international arts
festival a month ago.
About your invitation to come to visit you, I’m not sure if I can go there. In
fact, it’s nearly impossible because I don’t think I can afford it.
So, why don’t you come here? I’ll show you around my beloved hometown.

Dear Barbara,
Hi, there. How are the things with you? It’s good to know that you are doing fine in
business. Have you received my Postcard?
I am now sitting in my hotel room writing a letter to you about my wonderful
holiday. I think that this is the most wonderful holiday I have ever had. The people
are very friendly. There are a lot of interesting tourist objects to visit, beautiful local
art and craft, tasty traditional food and much more.
It’s Thursday today. I can’t believe this is my last day. I wish I could spend more time
here. I am certain I will stay longer on my next visit.
I’ll be home at about 3 p.m. tomorrow if the flight is on time. On Monday I must
back to work. I can’t wait to show my video to my class.
Okay, that’s all for now. Send my love to your children. Bye.
Best wishes.
