Lalitpur has poor vital and economic records before 2006. Government of UP and UNICEF , Lucknow selected it for implementing convergence of development programme , IYCF counseling being one of such programme.
Eight volunteers from each block , total of 48 , thereafter were chosen to develop them as trainers in IYCF for community workers for the project . They were trained in 7 days course for middle level trainers developed by BPNI at medical college, Gorakhpur and then they were given orientation again after a month for training family level counselors at block level. Three family level counselors, one AWW, second the ASHA and the third lady a volunteered women from each village/ICDS centre/ Tribal Majiras were trained by middle level trainers under supervision of medical College/BPNI trainers in Lalitpur at block level..
Counseling centre were established at each PHCs and at district hospital , Lalitpur, the middle level trainers run those centres.
The repeat surveys were done by team of researches from Delhi and Kolkatta and it was noticed that IYCF counseling has improved IYCF indicators significantly over a period of 6 yrs and the health and nutritional status of children in Lalitpur has improved.
Mothers in villages of Lalitpur are now well informed about breastfeeding skills and about complementary feeding.
